Viddler is an online video content distribution service with a few
hidden gems up their sleeve.
What is the history and popularity of the application?
Viddler was created by a team of developers, designers and architects
from companies such as RackSpace, IBM and Macromedia. The entire team
is split up between Ohio, Arizona and Pennsylvania in the US and
Poland. Viddler's unique ability to both video comment and tag
directly inside of a video is one of the greatest features that they
have to offer. No longer do videos need to have general descriptions
or comments, they can be interacted with down to the second (err,
keyframe in Flash). Viddler is currently used by many high profile
webisode producers such as iJustine, ForkYou and Two Guys on Beer
What are the differences to other applications?
One of Viddler's key differences from other video content providers
(YouTube, Veoh and Revver) is the ability to tag and video comment
directly in the video. In addition, Viddler allows the recording of
videos directly from any web browser that has both Flash installed and
a web cam present. This allows for very fast content creation and
distribution.
How does the application look and feel to use?
While Viddler can look a bit confusing the first time one visits, the
features that they provide are all clearly displayed on their
homepage. Record, view and communicate with both the content creators
and other Viddler members are just a few of the great things that
Viddler has to offer. Viddler has gone through great lengths to get
their player and interface to be as easy to follow as possible.
How does the registration process work?
Users can view any video on Viddler (that's publicly shared) without
registering for an account. Registration is necessary to both record
and upload content as well as to communicate within the videos. To
register, a username, password and email are all that are required.
What does it cost to use the application?
Viddler is completely free and ad-supported at this time. While
premium features could be provided in the future, none have been
announced yet.

world and to communicate with the viewers. Through easy to manage
video comments, tags and text-based comments, users and creators share
