mail2web allows you to check your student or internet provider email address from the web. You simply give your email address and password and the application will retrieve your email though tot POP3 or IMAP protocol. You can then read your email and send messages.
What is the history and popularity of the application?
mail2web was started in 1997 and is owned by SoftCom, a Canadian company. It is run by Tony Yustein, an old Microsoft employee. Besides mail2web they also run myprovider.com, a Windows based hosting provider. mail2web has millions of users every year.
What are the differences to other applications?
The difference with existing email providers is that you don't need a new email address. You can check your existing email address through the web without much hassle.
How does the application look and feel to use?
The website is simple and quick. After giving your email address and password the application takes a few seconds to retrieve the email. Then you are taken directly to your inbox that shows only your new messages. You can then read them and send replies. Their are special URLs for PDA and mobile access, these use a lightweight interface.
How does the registration process work?
Registration is not needed, your email address and password are enough. mail2web guesses all the technical settings of your email account so no specific settings are nessecary. As long as the email address supports POP3 or IMAP you can use mail2web.
What does it cost to use the application?
The application is ad supported, a banner is shown above the inbox. In case you want to use the Outlook web access interface you need to get a mail2web email address and pay 5 dollar per month. But this is optional.

We recommend this application to people who need to check their internet provider email while they are on the road. If the webaccess of your provider is not what you like or too slow on your mobile device mail2web is a great alternative.
