Web-based applications are becoming more and more popular and are often chosen over downloadable software. The benefits of web apps in comparison to downloadable software are numerous: no installation required, faster to use, does not slow down a computer, can be used on any computer with Internet, and has endless possibilities (play games, design, get directions, get the latest financial news, create a profile, edit photos, etc.). Also, there is no need for saving or backing up your work because the data is safely stored on the website. That makes working with web apps also more dynamic and flexible, since you can work from any computer and every time you log on, all the data will be were you left it and you can start up right where you left off.
Web users often wonder about the fastest way to upload a 1 GB file or a way to combine all their favorite social networks into one site, but often do not know which application to choose. AppAppeal makes it easy to choose what suits your needs by offering more than 2300 reviews of web apps in more than 150 different categories, like social networking, games, dating, photo, and video. The reviews are comprehensive, objective, and written by professional writers. The reviews also offer a quality score, feature list, pricing information, screenshots, and screen casts.

People who use web apps everyday may not notice that not everyone has a clear idea as to what a web app is.
To make this clear, AppAppeal has created a check list that makes it clear for everyone:
1. It runs in your browser. With that we mean: it is a website and you can open it with Internet Explorer, Chrome, FireFox, etc.
2. It does not require a download or the installation of extra software
3. You can access it on any device that has a Internet browser: PC, laptop, tablet, smartphone, etc. But please keep in mind that mobile apps are not web apps! Many web apps do have mobile apps, like the Facebook App for Android and iPhone, but these have to be downloaded and installed, which means it is not a web app
4. It often needs an Internet connection, not only to access the web app but also to save the work you are doing while using the web app
5. Since you never have to update or install anything, you are always using the most up-to-date version.
6. The main question to keep in mind is: “Does it do something?” If it is a website with only information that you can read, it is not a web application. But if it is a website where you can log in, use a tool, upload a picture, search for information (like Google), create your own profile, or upload a file, it is a web application
7. Popular examples are: Gmail, Facebook, Google, Google Docs, Wikipedia, Ebay, and IMDB
