Zumeo is a job website that claims to have a number of differences, while in actual fact it’s very similar to every other job website on the internet. Using Zumeo you will be able to find a job that suits you. During signup you are asked a series of questions which are used to assess your personality and choose a company that you might like to work in. Zumeo can also be used as a social networking website even once you’ve found your job. Zumeo officially launched in June 2008, although the site was available in Beta testing for a few months before this. The company was founded by Jared Booye who is otherwise unknown; he is a graduate from Oregon Institute of Technology. Zumeo does have its own database of jobs to search through; however it also searches through shared job agency websites. Especially Simply hired, this doesn’t really make the site that useful. There’s nothing that much different to any other job site, it is competing very much with the likes of jobster. It does have social networking capabilities built in, but it’s not that outstanding. Assuming you put up with the extremely long winded registration process then you will of registered successfully and be able to start looking for jobs. The site looks like any other job site but more confusing. There are lists of suggested contacts at the top that are generated by analyzing your answers to the questions on signup; however the rest of it looks similar to any other site. Also many of the text that looks like links aren’t actually a link which makes it very irritating to use. When you do click on a job that you want to apply to you will find that you are actually normally forwarded to a third party site. This means that at best the formats will change which makes navigation harder. However worse than that if any jobs are removed and stay on Zumeo then this will result in dead links. When you first visit the site you will be prompted to sign up for an account, you just need to enter your name, and email in the boxes and then click the continue button. If you’re signing up as a recruiter then there is a different form to complete by clicking the small “Recruiter?” link. When you click continue you will need to enter a password and agree to the terms and conditions. Note that the enter key does nothing here, you actually have to click the continue button which is frustrating to say the least. Also having the continue button grayed out looks like it’s not active, but that’s not the case. The design can be confusing at times. Once you have completed the first two steps you then get another three steps to complete. This is a little frustrating as a seemingly small signup page has turned into one that’s more in depth than normal. To sign up it involves clicking lots of buttons whereas it should be filling out a form and clicking a button. The next three steps aren’t that bad, but to change between the steps you do have to click the gray title bar which again is confusing, clicking “on to step 2” does nothing. Follow the other two painfully long steps and you will create your account. Using Zumeo is completely free; it is supported by Google adverts although these don’t really get in the way of the information. Zumeo is just another job website, the trouble is that as the majority of the jobs are just from other sites they are available elsewhere. This site is very confusing to use, and the signup process alone is off-putting. This means that many people will stick to the better known job sites.
