What can you use the app for?
Yummly is designed to give users total control in their search for a perfectly fitting recipe. Users can refine searches that pull from many of the most popular recipe data bases on the internet. The controls help create a truly refined search by letting users select from various nutrition criteria, flavor slider options, cuisine choice, budget and time requirements, or specific recipe data base websites. Yummly has created a single location for internet users to come and search many tasty recipes online with only a few clicks involved.
What is the history and popularity of the app?
Yummly was founded in January of 2009 by David Feller and Vadim Geshel. At the time, Feller and Geshel were interested in creating something more than a simple search tool. They wanted to put together a website that was far more intuitive, helping users find recipes through their personal tastes. The goal was to incorporate understanding about flavor and food into the Yummly search feature. Today, that goal has been realized through Yummly’s convenient search options which allow for precise refinement of any recipe search.
What are the differences to other apps?
Unlike the standard recipe search, Yummly gives users complete control by including a number of unique search criteria along with the standard options. Rather than simply looking for a recipe by ingredient or name, users can use a number of other search guidelines. To look for a recipe by taste, bitter, sweet, salty, savory, and sour. Users can also narrow the selection down by nutrition requirements to help with specialized diets.
How does the web app look and feel to use?
Yummly’s site design is very rich, with the playful use of basic shapes and warm colors that are very enticing to a new visitor. The style provides a clean atmosphere that look professional, yet inviting. Silhouetted images are muted against rich gold, red and orange all offset by a solid white background. This helps make the site easy to use by allowing users to find all the basic functions quickly without wading through a lot of fluff or flashy colors.
How does the registration process work?
Visitors are not required to register for Yummly to perform a search. However, to access all the other features offered through the site, new visitors are asked to sign in. By clicking the grey “Register” button in the right hand side of the screen, users can begin the registration process. This is extremely simple and requires a Facebook account. After clicking the grey button, a pop up box will appear asking the user to either sign in or click the blue button to register using Facebook. Unfortunately, there is no other registration option provided.
What does it cost to use the application?
The price of Yummly is perfect for anyone and everyone. Users can sign up through their Facebook profile for free. They are given access to all the features the site has to offer, which includes recommendations, a public user profile, recipe edit options and a recipe box to save a list of favorites. Frequent users can benefit significantly from creating an account and saving their recipes for each return visit.
Who would you recommend the application to?
The culinary adventurous as well as anyone looking for a recipe for really any occasion can enjoy the benefits of using Yummly. The features are intended to help refine the process of searching for new recipes online. The internet has numerous options with a long list of potential resources to seek out a new flavor. Rather than making the rounds to see them all, users can simply create a Yummly account and search many of the most popular recipe data bases all at once. There is a hint of social networking involved as well, so users who enjoy Facebook can appreciate the ability to link accounts.

Crap website. Many of the recipes look wrong and/or are missing ingredients. For example, the recipe for the "yummy vegan chocolate chip peanut butter cake" is missing peanut butter in the ingredients, yet refers to it in the directions. Furthermore, this website is misleading, as it comes up when I search for almost anything, despite the fact that there are few to no recipes on what I searched for. When i searched for "vegan peanut butter cake," yummly told me there were 44 recipes for vegan peanut butter cake, when in fact there was just ONE. I am not at all impressed.
