Xpenser is a refreshing application which is targeted at the tech savvy, Blackberry toting busy bee who never seems to remember what he spends and finally lands up paying for something for which someone else was supposed to foot the bill. Whoa…. a verrrry long sentence that sums up Xpenser nicely. Here is an application which warms the cockles of good old tech types. Ordinary folks can try it out but there is a word of caution – it requires familiarity with electronic gadgets and stuff like Twitter, Blackberry and IM. If one is familiar with these terms Xpenser is the way to go. The application started off with some features and has grown and improved by adding new tools with time.
If anyone forgets to jot down expenses as they happen, they are not alone. Often, people spend on behalf of their organization but fail to claim the same. In fact, many thousands of dollars or Dinars or whatever are lost because of this human frailty called forgetfulness. Xpenser is a nifty little application with which one can record expenses as they happen. For example, if one is having candy on the beach with one hand, they can use the other to send a message through their shining new Blackberry and voila……..the expense is recorded. Must say technology has come far from the good old days when one had to reach out to a pen or pencil to record the dreary expenses on a Black book at the end of a tiring day on the beach.
Xpenser expenses with expenses in a nice tech way which is both refreshing and easy. Putting a tick on the expenses and allotting it to office expenditure has never been easier.
Xpenser took off in October 2007. Since then it has added to its portfolio of tools and significantly moved up the value chain. The present usage figures and demographics are not available.
Xpenser is a unique application in the expenses ecosystem. Incidentally, one would hardly see an application which focuses on expenses, maybe because most of us want to shy away from our irresponsible flittering away of company money. But the application itself is tech oriented – by the techies, for the techies and of the techies. Knowing that there are many out there who run away from even the scent of an email, this application is a big no-no. On the other hand it is a great app for the tech savvy. Swings both ways (no pun intended)
Simple, easy and intuitive- for the tech savvy. Complicated, difficult and gibberish- for the common man on the street. The interface is nice and the instructions are clear and plain. On second thoughts even the man on the street can get going by following instructions which are clear and lucid.
For such a tech savvy, nifty little piece of software, the registration process is a bit zigzaggy. One has to give the email address to which the application would send a confirmation mail with a password and back you to the application and type in the email and password etc. etc. And then one has to register the phone number, and other such details. If one wants to use the application to the hilt one must do some legwork which is reasonable.
Xpenser is free. Full stop. But if one plans to use SMS, be ready to pay the service provider. One can’t expect Xpenser to foot the mobile expenses.
Highly recommended for the tech savvy on the run. Not so for the man on the street.
