Wordoid.com is a site that helps the user create a name for a new product, website, domain, etc from a word. The user types in a word to start with, and the site creates new words from that word by appending prefixes and suffixes to the word. The site can use English, Spanish, Italian or French as the language to apply to the prefixes and suffixes, and can create words that sound natural, hardly sound natural, or do not sound natural at all. If the user checks two languages, the site will apply the rules of both languages for appending suffixes and prefixes, in effect creating a word in a new language.
The site can generate almost unlimited results, and the results can be filtered, for example, by domains that already exist on the web. The search results tell the user if the word exists on the web, if it exists as a .com or .net domain, and whether or not the word is available as a .com or .net domain. The tool actually works quite well, and produces very interesting results. The list of results is almost endless – if the user keeps pressing the Next button, the application will continue generating new combinations of the word and suffixes and prefixes. The user can also limit the length of the generated word to a certain number of characters. The user can also choose whether or not to put the original word somewhere inside, at the beginning of, or at the end of the generated word.
Wordoid.com was launched in February 2009.
The closest thing to competition to Wordoid.com comes from sites such as Wordconstructor.com and Fouteenminutes.com (http://www.fourteenminutes.com/fun/words). Wordconstructor simply generates random words containing the characters of the word(s) you type in. Fourteenminutes allows you to specify the word to use as the beginning of the new word. Wordoid allows you to specify that the original word be in the beginning, middle or end of the new word.
The Wordoid.com site has a very minimalist look and feel. The site is quite responsive, and new words are returned in a few seconds. Navigation is easy, as the site consists only of the word generator page and a Contact Us page. All of the options for the word generating tool can be specified using dropdowns or checkboxes, and the list is returned at the bottom of the home page. Pressing Next refreshes the list on the same page. There is no advertising displayed on the Wordoid.com site.
There is no registration to the Wordoid.com site required. The user simply types in the original word and presses the Create key.
Wordoid is free to use, there is no premium membership offered to the Wordoid.com site.
Wordoid.com is recommended to anyone who needs to create a name for a product, website, domain or other thing (or even person, the site could be used to pick a unique name for a baby). The site works very well and is actually quite sophisticated. The results are some very interesting words, some of which actually convey a new idea. The site is sure to be a hit among Internet and traditional marketers for naming of products and domains.
