Wolpy is an application used to track travels of users and their friends.
Wolpy was founded in the spring of 2008. The application currently has 8,200 users and 23,000 places logged. Each user averages 35 places.
Wolpy allows users to create trip reviews and maps that are shared on the site.
One thing users should know is that the Help section has not yet been added and the blog is apparently disabled. A contact form is offered for questions. A Tumblr account is in Spanish, with links to blogs and articles about Wolpy rather than any information from the company itself.
Users are invited to complete a profile with full name, gender, birthdate, location, relationship status, and a brief bio and profile picture. This is all optional. Users may also provide fun facts and links to websites.
To add a city or town to a Wolpy page, users enter the name in a box and click “add”. Using Google Maps, a city is suggested and the user can confirm that this is the place they wish to add. Next, trip title, dates and length of visit, along with trip experiences and review may be added. Trip photos may also be added to the page. Once entered, all information is stored under “Your Visited Places” with an accompanying Google map pin. Trip link may be emailed from the app to friends to view as well.
The application is easy to use and pages load very quickly. The directory of users may be searched or random users’ pages may be viewed. By searching places, other user reviews may be viewed.
Users provide an email, username, and password for registration.
There are no user costs associated with Wolpy.
This application will appeal to those who travel frequently and enjoy sharing their experiences. The Google Map integration is an appealing feature for visualizing the places visited, but the same features are provided by Google Maps itself.
