WoBook can be compared to an online library, but instead of being for regular books WoBook is for EBooks. Electronic books are becoming more and more popular, and this website is one of the best ways to read them. All of the eBooks on this site are converted into a 3D format which can be read just like a real book, there are even sound effects when you turn the pages. The free version is suitable for amateur authors and includes adverts at the top of the window; however the paid versions get rid of this advertising. WoBook is an online eBook publication platform, authors and publishers can upload their books to the system where other people are free to read them. There are also a number of paid subscriptions for authors that don’t want adverts to appear above their eBook. It seems to be a very popular website and has hundreds of eBooks on it. Unlike other applications this site specializes in eBooks. It is geared up for both American customers and French customers which is a bit of a strange mix. Also some of the English on the site is either wrong or obscure words which makes some things confusing. All in all it’s not a bad site and is quite useful. The lack of full screen functions do however limit its usefulness considerably. The website is very busy and has a number of different books displayed on the main index page. However, after you’ve got over this though it’s quite easy to find your way around the site. To open an eBook that you want to read it’s simply a matter of clicking on it and it will pop up in all its glory. By default the site does make rather irritating noises when you turn the page, but that’s not really anything to be worried about and you can turn them off if you so wish. There also doesn’t seem to be a way to read the eBooks full screen or download them to a portable device. These features limit the usefulness of the application somewhat. Zoom works, but is very frustrating when you have to zoom in to see small details on a page. You can read the eBooks without first registering for an account as long as the eBook hasn’t been restricted. If you want to publish your own eBook then you will need to register for an account. The registration process is very easy. Do however note that you have to be on the main page to click the “Create your free account” link, if you’ve visited the terms page or any other page first and try to click the link then it doesn’t work. To create your account you will have to enter your email address, and choose a password. You have to tick the first box to say that you accept the terms and conditions of the site. You will also need to confirm your email address by checking your email and entering a code into the form. There is a free service available which is the most limited account, this allows you to publish your eBook however you will have advertising in the reader which can be a little off-putting for your readers. Paid subscriptions start at just $19.99 per month and allow you to customize the interface and get rid of the adverts. On paid accounts it’s also possible to add video and multimedia content. The most expensive subscription costs $39 per month and includes the ability to restrict who can read the publication and also integrates with Google Analytics. WoBook is the perfect web application for anyone wanting to read eBooks on the internet, and also for people wanting to publish them. It’s free for personal use, however businesses can also opt to pay to remove the advertising and benefit from additional features.
