Overall, Wikidot offers similar features to other wiki hosting sites. The application has thrown in a few extras that users may appreciate. Users can import their Gravatar to their WikiDot profile and participate in forums. Private messages and custom domain name options further customize the Wikidot experience.
The home page does not have much to be talked about. Use of red and black on a white background gives a subdued impression and the overall site relies more on functionality than on style. Moreover, there is immense scope for improvement in the way information has been organized. Though navigation is not a problem but there is a need for proper structuring. Information has been displayed in an extremely haphazard and random. The only area where one can heave a sigh of relief is the absence of quiet ads or pop-ups.
A new user can join the WikiDot community by clicking the black “Create Account” link in the upper, right hand corner (inside the grey navigation bar). The link takes the user to the registration form. The form asks for a name or alias, email address, preferred language password and Captcha code entry. A link to the WikiDot terms of service is provided below the Captcha code box. The user can complete registration by clicking the grey “I accept the WikiDot terms, please create my account” button at the bottom of the form.
