Jimmy Wales is best known as one of the founders of Wikipedia. Wikia is run by MediaWiki software which is originally developed for Wikipedia.org.
Wikia is aimed at hosting Wikis for communities on specific topics with a large audience which are likely to attract enough editors. Wikia approves or disapproves a request to create a wiki based on these conditions and the Wikia guidelines. The largest wikis hosted by wikia are the Star Wars and World of Warcraft communities.
