What can you use the app for?

Whaddado is a social bookmarking application that focuses on things to do and places to visit. The site works like a wiki, allowing users to add their favorite locations. The user can also provide information, such as cost, tags and other details that their friends might want to know about the venue or event. The user can also add the location to their personal lists, which include places they want to visit in different categories. Images, shouts and videos can also be uploaded to the event or location. Whaddado also maintains activity feeds so users can see who has been where and when they did it. The site provides user polls and integration with Facebook. Users can also search for others within the Whaddado community or invite the people they know to join. Popular lists, active users and recent feeds are posted to the Whaddado homepage.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Whaddado was created when one of the site’s founders was out having drinks with friends. During the outing, the group began discussing what they did the previous weekend. Each member of the group had gone somewhere different, although none had shared their plans with the others. This is how the concept for Whaddado was born. The application is intended to make it easier for users to share what they did and where they are going. Ironically, both founders of Whaddado share Damian as their first name. Whaddado is currently in beta.

What are the differences to other apps?

Whaddado seems to offer some of the same functions as social networks, with a focus on activities. Users can post their plans or past outings on sites like Facebook and Twitter, however Whaddado is focused on these things entirely. The user can share more insight and detail into their outings or what they plan to do in the near future. Users can also upload images, videos and make notes to show others what a good time they had visiting the location or participating in an event or activity.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

Whaddado has a very playful website design that features a fun, stylized brown squirrel. The squirrel is seen all over the site, lurking in avatars and parachuting down the homepage. A hummingbird is also featured against the dark pink and blue color scheme, which is offset by hints of dark gold.

How does the registration process work?

New users are given three options to join Whaddado. All three can be found along the right hand side of the homepage. The first two include signing in with an existing Facebook or Twitter account. The third is to create an account using email. After clicking the corresponding button, the user is asked to provide their email address, a username, password, first and last name, location and post code. The site also offers a fun twist on the typical Captcha code by asking the user to click and drag a specific icon to the light grey “Drop Here” circle at the bottom of the form.

What does it cost to use the application?

Whaddado is a website intended entirely for entertainment. Users can connect and visit more recommended locations that their friends liked, which is a helpful benefit. However this is not quite enough to warrant a subscription fee or other cost. Anyone can enjoy Whaddado for free.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Whaddado is aimed at users who have social networking accounts and love to go out. The site gives users a way to share information on their favorite places and helps them find new places through their friends.
