What can you use the app for?
WePay is an online service that enables users to collect donations, send bills, sell tickets and much more. It gives users the ability to accept payments made via a donor’s bank account, or credit card as well. Users of WePay are given tools to easily manage their group’s financial accounts, to ensure that the bills are paid on time, while at the same time users can share their organization’s financial history with other group members to maintain transparency. The two Facebook apps, Sell Tickets and Collect Money, allow users to sell tickets for Facebook events or collect money from Facebook groups.
What is the history and popularity of the app?
WePay was founded in 2008 by Bill Clerico and Rich Aberman in order to address three main issues that they felt that groups have to deal with. Firstly, that collecting money from others is a struggle. Secondly, once collected, that money must be stored in either a personal account, or a separate bank account must be established. Finally, maintaining transparency can be an issue as well. Therefore, WePay was developed to tackle these issues and ensure that organizations can easily collect and manage incoming money, while maintaining sound financial records.
What are the differences to other apps?
What makes WePay unique is its ease of use and its aim to serve as a solution to the financial problems that organizations often face starting out. Users can easily establish an online financial presence for their group or organization, and provide that information to members easily for purposes of transparency, and to enable group members to communicate with each other in one central location.
How does the web app look and feel to use?
WePay’s homepage maintains a simple if slightly cluttered layout, and an inoffensive color scheme of mostly white with colored links and menu boxes. Easily accessible are anecdotes on how organizations are currently using WePay, as well as several examples. Several external links are available to sites which have featured WePay at some point or another, unfortunately it is not readily apparent what these links are for without clicking on them, so a more wary user may consider them advertisements and avoid clicking entirely.
How does the registration process work?
On the homepage of WePay, a new user is prompted to choose why they wish to use WePay, and then after clicking the red “Get Started” button, is taken to the account creation page. Users must enter their group name and email address, after which they can optionally enter the email addresses of other members of their group who they wish to have access for transparency’s sake. After which, they click “Next Step” where they are required to enter First and last name, social security number for US PATRIOT Act compliance, and choose a password, after which they can then begin using the features of WePay in their entirety.
What does it cost to use the application?
WePay is a free to use service; however, groups will incur a small fee per incoming transaction. Groups can decide the fee for their transactions, enabling them to choose the option which best suits them. Fees for sending bills, selling tickets, and deposits are 50 cents when made with a bank account or alternatively, 3.5% if made via a bank account or credit card. All donations incur a 3.5% fee regardless of their source. In addition to the above, groups that wish to receive a WePay Prepaid Visa Card incurs small domestic and international ATM fees, as well as a shipping and handling fee of approximately $5-10.
Who would you recommend the application to?
WePay offers solutions for all organizations and individuals wishing to accept payments while maintaining sound records and transparency amongst its members, but it is especially suited to fundraising efforts, as it enables users to easily accept donations as well as sell tickets to events.

I see these posts and have to add my own.. I've been using WePay successfully for over a month.. everything works just like it said it would.. the FAQ and instructions I Read CAREFULLY!!! and the customer service has always answered all my questions and been quickly responsive, not only on the site itself with live chat, but on twitter as well.. The money processing time hasn't taken any longer for me than the FAQ claims, and when you input your bank account and routing for the first time you might want to note the succession must enter it in as.. the first time I tried to do mine I got it backwards... All and all after being with paypal for many years and then having a HORRIBLE experience with them that lead to them banning me for life over a lie they where told about my account.. I LOVE WePay... too bad Ebay is owned by paypal and join let WePay in.... I can't wait to see what WePay has coming in the future

I also have a payment pending. I called and a message said there were no support agents available to take my call, and to leave a message. What kind of shady business is this? As a seller trying to get away from Paypal, I just can't seem to win no matter where I go. I sent them an email, so now I have to wait. Actually, the payment is from myself. I want to see how hard it is to get my funds after a sale.

If you enjoy not being able to see what people buy from your store until a payment clears, and having every payment take multiple days to go from Pending to Complete (Including withdrawals directly from your account balance from money that is completely cleared already), having to export an Excel document to get shipping information (which also doesn't contain what someone purchased), having Wepay use the information the customer provided to call said customer and ask them if they did in fact order something from you and that you aren't in fact trying to steal money from them (really inspires repeat business, let me tell you) then by all means use this service. On the upside it's easy to set up a little store and test it out for yourself. The customer service is very polite and quick to respond, even if they don't answer the questions you ask. I would have preferred 0 stars , or negative stars, but that option doesn't exist because in a sane world it shouldn't need to.

Wepay definitely sucks. And I will agree with the comment below. My payment was pending for over a week. My buyer has been waiting for the item that was suppose to be shipped 3 days after the payment was made. I had contact wepay to see what is going on and the wepay rep stated they have to verify the payment. Okay so what's the verification? Wepay rep stated they have to call the buyer. I asked is that standard proceedure? They stated only for new accounts. I'm like OK I'll contact my customer let him know. They never contacted him to verify the payment. I call back a day or two later to ask what is going on. They state they are waiting for the customer to call them. I tell them the customer has not been contacted in any way. They say they will make another attempt. When they get a hold of him, the buyer contacts me irritated with the wepay reps concern for what he's purchasing, what it's for, and getting very personal with my customer. I contact wepay again, they apologize (we are 7 days in now) and state it will clear in 3 more days. I told them this should have been done the first minute payment came in. So I ask again so I'm sure I can relay future purchase procedures to give an exact ETA of delivery etc. The wepay rep states OH NO every new buyer and seller needs to be verified. I say what... The last rep stated it's just for new account holders. They said Nooooooooooooooooooooo (like the longest no ever). Every (Every) account has to be verified. So in short every new customer I have which probably majority of them about 90% will be new customers will have to be manually verified. What a waste. I immediately closed the account. This is a bridge and tunnel crowd and obviously too amateur to satisfy any clients needs. They are probably not FDIC insured so if they bust your money is gone. I cannot trust them. Their ethic of conducting a business is not, their practice is how good they can advertise apposed to true morality of structuring.
