Webs is an online application that you can use to build your own website. Although there are plenty of other options for designing a website, many of them are very complicated. Webs was originally known as freewebs and has always allowed users to quickly and easily create websites without needing to know any special skills or have any special equipment. The best thing about this service is that it also includes hosting which reduces costs and also makes designing and running a website much easier than it would otherwise be. The main purposes of the site is to make the internet easy to use again, the internet is normally only accessible by people that know how to make a website. However thanks to webs it’s possible for anyone to create a website. Many different sites can be hosted on webs; these can include calendar, guestbook’s, galleries, games, blogs, forums and just regular websites. There are hundreds of different templates that you can use to create and design a beautiful site. Webs started life as a service known as Freewebs in 2001. This website was launched at the start of the dot com boom by two brothers, Haroon and Zeki Mokhtrazada. Both were studying at the University of Maryland and launched the site once they had finished their last year. The website has becoming increasingly popular and during 2007 the site attracted over 18 million visitors every month. Freewebs became Webs on 14th November 2008. In December 2011, Vistaprint acquired Webs. There are other services on the internet where you can create websites; however few are as simple as this. Webs has over 300 different templates for you to choose from, which means your site will look unique without the trouble of actually creating one. The page editor is also very easy to use, and as it’s a WYSIWYG editor you don’t need to know any HTML. Other unique features include calendars, photo gallery software, and integration with third party services like Google checkout and PayPal. It also includes a mailing list which can be a very valuable sales tool. As soon as you’ve registered for an account with webs and chosen your template you will then be redirected to the page designer. There are two different modes for this, easy or more complicated. Most people will probably choose the first option. This is a really easy site designer to use, you just need to select the type of site you want to create, and then follow all of the instructions. You can then use the site designed to edit and change your site. If you do get stuck then there is also a tutorial that you can check out. Registering for an account on webs is very easy; when you visit the main page you will instantly have the option of creating your own site by choosing a name. Enter the site address that you want, this will be how other people access your site. The address will be in the form of yourname.webs.com which isn’t really that long. You will also have to enter a password and then click the button. Once you have done this you will be taken to a longer form to fill out. This includes all of the standard fields including your email address. It’s at this stage that you can choose the design you want for your site by looking through over 300 templates. Once you have chosen your template and accepted the terms and conditions you are ready to go. Watch out for the next form as it’s not required and seems to be collecting your information for another site which is not on! Just click “No Thanks, Continue”. Once you’ve completed this you will then need to confirm your email address by clicking a link in the email that is sent to you. Webs is completely free to use but is supported by adverts. There are also a number of premium services which remove the adverts and add additional functionality. Certain premium packages include a free domain name which is even easier to give out than your webs domain name, and also looks much more professional. With premium accounts, larger amounts of bandwidth and storage are available. Webs is perfect for anyone that wants to create a website either for themselves or for their business but wants to do so without needing any special tools or utilities. Webs has done a wonderful job at making websites much easier to create.
