What can you use the app for?

We7 is designed to help users enjoy music without illegally downloading or infringing on the artists’ livelihood. The user can listen to any music they want on demand and even compile entire personal radio stations consisting of many artists and albums. The way the system works is by utilizing We7’s “MediaGraft” technology. This works by placing an advertisement tailored to the user’s preferences at the beginning of every song. The user must sit through the advertisement, but then can listen to the song of their choice. The artists receive all revenue the advertisements generate and the user gets free, on demand music anytime they want it.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

We7 was created to help users and artists find a better way to enjoy music. The artist gets paid and the user enjoys legal, free music on demand. The We7 team currently consists of Chairman John Tayson, CEO Steve Purdham, CTO Gareth Reakes, and SVP of Digital Music Clive Gardiner. Today, the site offers a unique way for users to enjoy music and an opportunity for artists and advertisers to earn revenue and gain fans.

What are the differences to other apps?

There are many ways to listen to music on the internet, however most of these have some restriction. There are internet radio stations that do not allow users to choose each song as well as illegal download websites that can get users into a lot of trouble. We7 has found a way to give users the music they want and pay the artist for their creations. Advertisements before each song make it possible for We7 to make both the listener and artist happy so that everyone can enjoy music and continue making it.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The We7 website is a bit busy when a new user first arrives. The site itself offers many links and tools to help the user begin listening. However, the additional banner and side menu advertisements are a turn off. They seem to fit into the layout, but in a way that is a little intrusive. Of course, users must remember that We7 offers a free music listening experience so advertisements are going to be expected.

How does the registration process work?

A new user can join We7 by clicking on the white “Join” link at the top right hand corner of the homepage. The user is asked to choose from three membership types, two of which are not yet available. Next, a pop up box asks for a username, password, email address, gender, date of birth, and postal code. There are three check boxes at the bottom of the form, the first two are automatically checked and sign the user up for the We7 newsletter and third party updates. The third must be manually checked to agree to We7s terms and conditions. Users should also note that the first two boxes must be manually unchecked to opt out of email messages.

What does it cost to use the application?

We7 offers users three memberships to choose from, two paid and one free. The two paid memberships are not yet available in all countries. In this situation, the user can only choose the free membership which includes access with advertisements. The mid ranged Premium membership runs about $7 and includes unlimited online listening. The Premium Plus membership costs about $14 and upgrades to include mobile listening features. There is no word given as to when the two premium paid memberships will be accessible in the United States and other countries.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Music fans can enjoy We7, although there are other online radio applications that offer music that fits into a genre or theme that do not require an advertisement before every song. For users looking to listen to a specific song or album, We7 is a good choice. Otherwise, applications like Pandora Radio might be a better choice.
