What can you use the app for?
WatchDox.com is a secure online application that allows users to control and track the documents they send online. Users can control access to view the document as well as permission to copy, print or forward the document. Sending a document is a simple process. The user enters the email address of the person the document is being sent to, uploads the document to the site and then sets the permissions on the document. The user then presses the Send button, and a link to the document is sent to the recipient. The recipient follows the link to the document to view it, and can only copy from it, print it or forward the document if they have been given permission to do so. Users can visit My Documents to track all of the activity related to the documents they have sent and received using the site. Users can tell who has viewed, copied from, printed or forwarded the document. The activity summary also shows a map with the location of the person who has accessed the document. For a given document that has already been sent, users can edit the users who have access to it and their permissions. User access to an existing document can be added or revoked as well. Users also have the option of receiving email alerts whenever someone accesses a document.
What is the history and popularity of the app?
Silicon Valley-based Confidela, a company founded by Moti Rafalin and Noam Livnat, launched Watchdox in early 2009. The company also has an R&D facility based in Israel.
What are the differences to other apps?
Competition to Watchdox comes from sites such as DocLanding. DocLanding offers a service similar to Watchdox, but they also offer online collaboration tools in addition to document control. The Watchdox service is primarily just designed for the sending and controlling of documents.
How does the web app look and feel to use?
Pages are clean and uncluttered, the site is very responsive, and page loads happen quickly. Navigation of the site is very intuitive, with My Documents and Send a Document shown on all pages on the site. Both sending and viewing of documents is an easy process. There is no advertising displayed on the Watchdox site.
How does the registration process work?
Registration to the Watchdox site is free and is required to send a document. The registration simply asks the user for their email address. Validation of the email address is required. There is no sign-in process, as once an email address has been validated a cookie is placed on the user’s computer as a validated user.
What does it cost to use the application?
The Watchdox site is still in public beta, and the service is being offered for free throughout the beta period. Information on future pricing was unavailable.
Who would you recommend the application to?
The Watchdox site is recommended to any individual or company that needs to securely control and track the sending and receiving of documents. The ability to grant users various permissions to documents makes for a very flexible solution. In addition, the site is very easy to use. The site provides an elegant solution to a need that has existed for some time.

Bill, Can you share with us why WatchDox is not recommended? I have been using service WatchDox to secure documents on iOS devices with no issues. The service works great.

You didn't mention their <a href="https://www.watchdox.com/watchdox-virtual-data-room">virtual data room</a>...which is I think a very easy to use solution to present secure documents to business associates, potential buyers etc.
