VYou is a social interaction tool. Friends and fans enter questions and users record video responses.

VYou is still in beta, so there are no traffic statistics available. The site was founded by Steve Spurgat and Chuck Reina in 2010.

What are the differences to other apps?

Vyou is said to be a combination of Formspring, YouTube, and Twitter, allowing video conversations. Users can create, store, and send pre-recorded videos.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

After signin, users may browse people by discussion topic and choose to follow individuals. Some have several video answers available for viewing. There are many people to follow in each topic and no way to further filter basic topics.

When viewing a user’s page, a loop with a “waiting” video is displayed. A list of recently answered questions is available for viewing. Users can type a question and submit it to another user on their page. If the question has not been asked before, a “no answer” prerecorded video will play and the question will be submitted.

Once privileges are granted, a user can create their own waiting and no answer videos to be kept on file. They may then begin to answer submitted questions as well.

VYou is easy to use and fun, but some may be frustrated in trying to new find people to follow based on shared interests. Connecting with friends or business associates may be attractive to some users.

How does the registration process work?

Users provide an email address to sign up for VYou. A link in the confirmation email leads to the remaining signup process. First and last names, and password are required. Users have the option of connecting their VYou accounts with Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr. Profile setup follows with a display name, URL, short bio, birth date, and gender. The last part of registration is the discussion topic selection. Several subtopics are offered in entertainment, health & beauty, business & education, professional sports, culture, and hobbies. New accounts have limited privileges. Full privileges are granted within 48 hours.

Vyou is free to use.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Once out of beta, VYou may be useful for students collaborating on projects, friends who want to keep in touch, fans who want to connect with celebrities, and more. It is more likely to be a fun application than one of real usefulness.
