What can you use the application for?
Tripbase.com is a travel recommendation and vacation idea site. They
use automatically mined information from all over the internet to
educate others as to where to go and how to travel. Through a series
of simple questions, Tripbase can recommend destinations and vacations
that suit each individual's needs and desires.
What is the history and popularity of the application?
Tripbase.com was formed by Trip Technologies Inc. in 2005 by a group
of passionate travelers. The idea behind Tripbase is to both enable
users to find out unbiased and objective information on each and every
destination as well help find new destinations that people may not
have thought of based on their personal preferences. As Tripbase is
still in their alpha release, certain features are very limited. The
option to choose activities is currently limited to only casinos but
they say that more are on the way.
What are the differences to other applications?
Many people would compare Tripbase to sites such as Travelocity,
Expedia and CheapTickets but there is a major underlying difference --
Tripbase aims to educate and inform their users of trips all over the
world as opposed to selling tickets or vacations to people directly.
As we're sure that Tripbase will offer to sell travel solutions at
some point in the future, they currently link to other sites for
purchasing tickets while searching for travel ideas. In addition to
this, the interface that Tripbase offers is clean, simple to use and
intuitive for all users to find the information that they're looking
for.
How does the application look and feel to use?
Tripbase.com offers a great interface for searching for travel
destinations and ideas. With their use of sliders and simple
questions, it makes browsing a breeze. Some of the features are a bit
rough around the edges. At the time, a Google Maps API error came up
while searching for trips but after a quick refresh of the page, this
message disappeared. In addition, the scroll bars on the "More Info"
pages do not seem to fit well into the clean, rounded design of the
rest of the site. Overall, the current design has great potential
once a few of the bugs are worked out.
How does the registration process work?
While Tripbase does not require registration at all to use their
service, they do offer a sign up feature. Unfortunately at the time
that this site was looked at, the registration would not work. A
verification email would be received but when a user clicks on the
link to verify their registration, a page appears that says the
registration token has expired.
What does it cost to use the application?
Tripbase is completely free and supported by advertisements.
Who would you recommend the application to?
Tripbase.com will be a great choice for the everyday traveler and
internet junkie. Right now, the site still is limited to certain
features and still has a few kinks to work out. Many people may be
scared away by the number of check boxes and questions that are
presented but these do allow the site to recommend the perfect travel
destinations for a user.
