What are the differences to other apps?

The design is very simple; it looks like a series of post-it notes. It is obviously an idea in development and it is reported that new features are being considered.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

To add a train of thought, the users must first name it and add a description. Trains of thought may be shared with other users or kept private. Next, thoughtboxes may be added. A title is given to the thoughtbox and then thoughts may be placed in the box. This is similar to mind mapping, but on a much smaller scale. Thoughts may be added or deleted. Thoughtboxes and thoughts may be moved by drag and drop, however thoughts may not be moved between boxes.

The blog is not yet operational and information is provided via FAQ and a GetSatisfaction forum.

How does the registration process work?

Registration requires a first and last name, email address, username, and password.

What does it cost to use the application?

There are two levels of membership in Thoughtboxes. The Basic (for the casual thinker) membership is free. It includes 3 trains of thought along with the ability to share them. The Super (for the serious thinker) membership offers users unlimited trains of thought and sharing for $15/year. Users can upgrade or downgrade at any time. There are no refunds for downgrades, but the user will not be charged for the next year.

Who would you recommend the application to?

For those looking for an online way to organize thoughts or collaborate on brainstorming, Thoughtboxes may be a good option. It is much more limited than Mind Mapping, but it is easier to use. Users may want to check it out with a basic plan and read the forum for planned improvements before committing to a paid membership, especially since there are no prorated cancellation refunds.
