What can you use the app for?
TagWorld is another one of the many social networking sites that are taking the internet by storm at the moment. Although it might not be quite as popular as MySpace, it is increasing in popularity all of the time. It’s often called Web2.0’s answer to MySpace. This website is similar to Flickr and deli.cio.us where you can upload photos and other files. You can share these files, tag and browse them. Although this site is similar to some of the other social networking sites it does have some unique twists, when you click on a tag for example you will see lots of blogs, photos and other information that’s related to the tag. Adding your own files and photos is really easy, as is organizing your site.
What is the history and popularity of the app?
TagWorld was created in 2005 by Evan Rifkin and Fred Krueger. TagWorld follows in the footsteps of other social networking sites such as deli.cio.us and Flickr, however it goes one step further of making Tags an even more important way of navigating the site. Back in 2006 the site celebrated its one millionth new member, and since then it has continued to grow from strength to strength. The site is still very popular and has recently been redesigned and upgraded. TagWorld has also increased the number of products, including a classifieds section, and music videos through a partnership with Universal Music Group.
What are the differences to other apps?
TagWorlds biggest competitors are MySpace and Flickr; however TagWorld does offer a number of differences. Although tags have been used on Flickr before, TagWorld uses them in a different way as everything is linked together with the tags. You can not only meet people here, but you can also upload your photos and other files.
How does the web app look and feel to use?
TagWorld has recently been redesigned and is really easy to use. All of your details are controlled through your profile page which can be accessed by clicking on “profile” on the green bar at the top of the screen. Here you can upload photos, create a blog post, change your personal details or just make comments. Searching for other people to talk to is also really easy as the site has a search function. If you want to find people then clicking on people can help you to find people that you might want to talk to, it’s easy to search for different categories.
How does the registration process work?
Signing up to TagWorld is really easy, however you will have to enter your email address for verification purposes. The email that they send you includes your password for all to see, so you might not want to use the same password you use for your bank or internet connection! When you are registering it’s possible to create your screen name and upload your thumbnail photo, however it’s also possible to change both of these later on.
What does it cost to use the application?
Like the other popular social networking sites it is completely free to use TagWorld, when signing up there are no requests for credit card or payment information. The site is partially supported by adverts, although this doesn’t detract from the usefulness of the website. Creating an account is really easy, and when it’s free why worry?
Who would you recommend the application to?
TagWorld is an ideal site for people that can’t get enough of social networking and are looking for new sites to join. There are some new and interesting features offered by TagWorld that aren’t available on sites like MySpace. TagWorld is ideal for anyone who wants to share not only photos but other media as well such as videos and even files. TagWorld has plenty of storage which makes it perfect for most people’s needs.
