What can you use the app for?
Supercook.com is a recipe search engine that returns results based on the ingredients the user already has in their kitchen. The user first enters the ingredients they have in their kitchen. The site automatically returns recipes that use those ingredients. The more ingredients the user adds, the more specialized the results become. Users can also search for recipes containing a particular item by using the search box provided on their home page. Users can save any recipe from the list by clicking on the Save button.
The user's My Account page contains their profile information, along with their saved recipes and a recommended list of ingredients they should consider buying based on what they already have in their kitchen. Clicking on a recipe in a search list takes the user to the original site where the recipe is located. Users can print their list of ingredients, list of recommended ingredients and list of saved recipes. Most of the home sites where the recipes are located also have a print button for printing the recipe.
What is the history and popularity of the app?
New York, NY-based Supercook.com was founded by Assaf Rozenblatt in 2008.
What are the differences to other apps?
Competition to Supercook.com comes from Allrecipes.com, Recipe.com and Cooking.com. All of these sites are recipe sites, but Supercook.com offers a unique service by recommending recipes that the user can cook using ingredients they already have. All 3 of the other sites will search for one ingredient that the user has, but will return results containing ingredients that the user may have to purchase in order to complete the recipe.
How does the web app look and feel to use?
The Supercook.com site has a very clean and uncluttered look and feel. The site is quite responsive, and page loads happen quickly. Results are returned in a matter of a few seconds when an ingredient is added, and keyword searches are returned almost instantaneously. Navigation of the site is intuitive, with a convenient top menu bar provided on all pages of the site. Advertising is displayed on the site, but it is relatively unobtrusive.
How does the registration process work?
Registration to Supercook.com is free and is required to save added ingredients and recipes. The registration process asks the user for username, password, email address, first and last name, zip code and age. Validation of the email address is not required.
What does it cost to use the application?
There is no premium membership offered to the Supercook.com site, and users with a free account have access to all features of the site.
Who would you recommend the application to?
Supercook.com is recommended to anyone who cooks. The site provides a unique service by providing the user with recipes that they can cook immediately, without having to go shopping. The site returns a large list of recipes for a given set of ingredients, and the user can view the recipe on the site where it originated.
