What can you use the app for?

SpeedDate is a dating website that takes the speed date concept to the web. Users begin by providing a few personal details and information on who they are seeking. The website provides singles that match the user’s preferences. The user can initiate chats that consist of five minute speed dating sessions. SpeedDate allows its users to participate in as many speed date chats as they like. The short chat time frame is intended to help users get right to the point, ask important questions and go on their initial reaction to the singles they consider dating. Users can build their dating profile with an image while meeting new singles from the site’s pool of more than 13 million members.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

SpeedDate was founded by Stanford graduates Dan Abelon and Simon Tisminezky. The pair created the site after completing an entrepreneurship class that was taught by former Google CEO Eric Schmidt. The application received $6 million in Series B financing and has received positive attention from popular media outlets, including TechCrunch. The site’s massive community gives newcomers a large pool of potential dates to work with as well as a unique, fast paced dating system.

What are the differences to other apps?

Dating websites are very popular. There are many well-known dating services that are used by thousands of individuals each day. SpeedDate presents many of the same features, but utilizes a unique approach to introductions. The traditional speed date gave a pair of potential daters a few minutes of face time to get to know one another and make a decision. If a match is made, contact details are shared and the pair can plan an actual date. SpeedDate takes this approach and recreates it for internet users.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

SpeedDate utilizes a pleasant blue and grey color scheme that gives it a friendly, laid back feel. New users do not feel intimidated because the site offers a clean interface and minimal clutter. The design isn’t extremely unique compared to other dating websites, but it works well for its intended purpose. Users do not need experience with computers or online dating to learn how SpeedDate works or how to navigate its simple interface.

How does the registration process work?

A new user can join the SpeedDate community by filling out the short pop up form on the homepage. The form asks for a gender, what gender the user is seeking, country and zip code. The next step asks for the user’s first name, date of birth, email address and a password. The last step asks the user to upload a photo to go with their profile. Users can also add a photo from their Facebook profile if they prefer to do so. The user is automatically logged in after completing the forms.

What does it cost to use the application?

New users are automatically given a complimentary basic account. This account includes unlimited two way messaging, unlimited live chats and unlimited chat invitations. Users who upgrade can access full email features, unlimited chats, higher ranks and additional control over chats. Subscriptions cost $39.95 per month. Users can subscribe for three months at $29.95 per month, six months for $26.95 per month or one year for $15.95 per month.

Who would you recommend the application to?

SpeedDate is a helpful dating resource for users who prefer a less time consuming dating experience. Users can get to know others through quick, hassle-free chat session. Multiple types of chat are available. Users can choose between a free or paid membership, which makes SpeedDate more accessible. The site already maintains an enormous community of users so newcomers have more options, which can lead to better potential love matches.

  • Each online dating chat session takes five minutes
  • Users can build a profile and upload an image
  • Speed dating makes introductions less stressful
  • New users have a large pool of potential dates to explore
  • Filters help users narrow down their search options

If you had to look in the dictionary what a Scam mention, you would find the company Speeddate under it. Besides consumers being billed for unwarranted "services" this company feels that it can do anything it wants of there Terms and Conditions. The customer service is a joke since they insist that their terms and conditions mean more than resolving the actual problem which is SERVICE. The site is ridden with fake profiles and non stop advertising telling you to join. Instead of spending $40 for a headache, go buy yourself a couple beers at the bar. It might give you a better buzz and less of a headache.

THEY ARE THEIVES!! BEWARE!! I joined for 40$ and then I logged on, they say hey, you have some ladies who would like to meet you. I was like great!! I clicked on one of them, then a message comes up.... in order to communicate, you'll have to pay 10$ more! I was like WTF? Are you kidding me? You wait till I pay 40$ and then once I'm suckered in, you say oh wait.. that's going to cost you more! I was a member for no more than 15 min, I canceled, which thier site did not register later, I called my CC and put a stop payment, but because they have a 'NO REFUND' policy, I can't do anything. Well.. I'm reporting them to the Better Business Buearo and will sue their A$$ is if have have a chance, I appologize for the 'language' but these folks are theives... beware! PS. I've tryed most, and I like match.com by far the best. It costs a little more, but the value that isn't apparent is actually there... No I don't work for them, just letting my fellow American no where a good deal is... have fun! Dax

I went on website new to it and went on to join for $15 and they charged my credit card $191.00 for one year. Now I am trying to get it back, I was willing to pay $15 to try it out but now 191.00 they had my credit card number in there system. It didn't let me make a choice it just did it. Very upset about this !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This company/website should be shut down. The practices they use are practically criminal. For example, they use your email account to send messages to all of your contacts in your address book without you knowing - I consider this identity theft. I have reported this to the authorities and I hope someone takes action against these people. I have also heard of many complaints of fraudulent billing from this company. My advise is to stay away from Speeddate.com, far, far away!!!

I like this site against all the other services I've tried. yes, there are free sites, but they don't introduce you to people that you can chat with right away. With this site, I like that they set you up with people to chat with for free. what other sites do that? then you can upgrade if you want to communicate more. but even the upgrade is way less expensive than going out on a crappy date. i've called customer service for advice on filling out my profile and they were very helpful. i'd recommend this service for sure.

Speeddate.com is a TOTAL scam - I'm sorry but I checked out this website per the recommendation of a friend; I was completely disgusted with the way they run it. The idea of a speed date and having them come up automatically is great, but having to pay to interact? And getting rejection messages because you dont want to pay $100+ to find "love"? Ridiculous. There are better sites out there that are free: Plentyoffish.com (excellent site - met my current boyfriend there: FOR FREE), and evow.com (again FREE). Speeddate.com just isnt worth it, not to mention, its full of superficial guys on webcams looking to nut over your photos while you talk them through their fantasy.

Speeddate.com is a SCAM. You give your credit card information $0.99/month identity verification, and it comes back and tells you you just subscribed for 12-month $191 subscription, and by the way no refunds. Customer service does not budge from the no refunds policy. I've had to get the Better Business Bureau of San Francisco and my bank involved.

I signed up for this shitty website but as the above users point out, all the girls that talk to you are scammers. I am not great at grammer but you can notice the stuff they say and right away you will know they are not from US. I imagine most of these users that claim to be girls are bunch of dudes on the other end trying to get a credit card number from you. Also if you sign up it will automatically renew without your permission and after you call to cancel they will still charge you for that month even though you tell them you only signed up for one month. Stay away from this site and dont use thier service.

I total agree. This website is a scam.. Please don't pay to use it.. Most of the pictures on this website is fake.. The profiles are fake. You can read them and tell that an legitimate person even with a 5th grad education would not write that stupid stuff.. I have reported to them multiple times and nothing seems to happen.. It's a waste of money and time.. Don't use this site.. Go to Match.com or eHarmony.com.. This is nothing but fraud!!

Speeddate.com is a terrible site! I receive several communications a day from users on the site, but it turns out that 90% or more of them are African SCAMMERS! And when I browse members that match my criteria, more than 50% are African or Russian SCAMMERS! When I report them to Speeddate I always get a popup that says how important my communication is, how seriously they take such reports and how they will make every effort to investigate and delete members that violate the Terms of Use. However, even the most OBVIOUS of these fraudulent profiles remain active for weeks or even months after I have reported them. Stay away from Speeddate.com.
