Just like many other similar sites, SocialBuy is another group buying website. Users can browse current deals and choose to buy into those deals. When a deal is purchased, the user must wait until enough buyers decide to take advantage of the deal. When they do, everyone is charged the listed price (which is usually 50% or more off of the regular price) and can try out the deal. If the minimum buyer amount is not met when the deadline passes, no one is charged for the deal. For many internet users, it’s a great way to save money on local businesses. Some people use sites like SocialBuy to try out a new venue, service, or product.
SocialBuy was founded in January of 2010. Today, Alan Garcia is CEO, Mirza Asif is CTO and Dennis Karlin is the Business Development Manager. From the day it was launched, SocialBuy was intended to be another version of the popular social buying website. Users can visit and take advantage of deep discounts negotiated for the site. SocialBuy still works much the same way now, presenting users with the opportunity to take advantage of significant savings through the buying power of a group.
Considering just how many social buying website are available today, it is hard to call the concept unique in any way. However, just like those other sites, SocialBuy presents users with a new collection of potential special offers and discounts as well as locations that other sites may not cover. In that way, each social buying website is unique. The user can choose from many to find the best deals on their favorite businesses.
The SocialBuy website features an eye catching blue and black color scheme. The black background fades at the bottom, creating a “glow” effect. The deep blue color of the logo and navigational links create a stark contrast against the dark background, which is very sleek. The central area is white, making it easy for the user to read content and find what they are looking for. The only downside to the site design is an annoying pop up box that appears as soon as the user visits the site. This box requests an email address sign up, but can be closed. It is a bit presumptuous to throw a sign up box at a new visitor, and could turn some users away. SocialBuy would do better to remove the pop up box and let the site do the convincing.
A new user can sign up through their Facebook or Twitter profiles, or go the traditional route by clicking the white “Sign Up” link at the top right hand corner of the homepage. This takes the user to the registration form, which requests a full name, email address, and password. After checking the terms of use and privacy policy agreement box, the user can click the bright blue “Sign up” button to complete the registration process.
Anyone can create a SocialBuy account and check out available deals for free. The site wants to encourage users to purchase the deals it posts, and charging money for access or a subscription would not be beneficial (at least not without additional features added). For now, the only cost associated with SocialBuy is the amount of money a user spends on each daily deal.
SocialBuy is a great site for anyone that wants to save money in the areas it covers. No fees are required, the only money paid goes towards the deal. Each deal is 50% or more off the regular price for the product or service listed, which can help the user save a lot of money.
