Snipt.org is a fairly new but useful application which is designed to allow users to share and store snippets of code using twitter. The code is stored permanently on the web which can be very useful. All of the code snippets are available using a shortened URL, it’s actually very similar to twitpic, but instead of using photos it shares source code. Snipt also has some useful features such as embedding a widget into your site. It is set up for twitter users; however it also works with many other platforms.
Snipt.org is not to be confused with Snipt; this service was founded in January 2009 by Dan Wasyluk. It’s designed to share code snippets using twitter, however twitter isn’t actually required.
Snipt.org is similar to a number of other applications which allow you to share photos using twitter. However unlike these applications snipt.org uses twitter to share source code snippets.
It’s really easy to use snipt.org because the design is so simple. There are only 4 fields, the first you will write the title of the code sample, then you will select the language, and then you can copy and paste the code into the box. You can log in using your twitter username and password, there’s no need to signup for a separate account.
There is no separate registration account for this site. To log into your account you simply use your twitter login and password. This also simplifies the process of posting your code snippets to your twitter account. The site has a disclaimer at the bottom saying that it doesn’t store any of the login details for your twitter account, but it something that you will have to decide whether or not you want to trust them yourselves.
Snipt.org is completely free to use, there are no paid accounts anywhere on the site.
Snipt.org has some interesting features and is useful for programmers, it not only allows you to share snippets of code but it also makes it very easy to store code so that you can remember it easily in the future.
