Snap.com is an internet search engine but more important is the product they produce called Snapshots; this is installed on over 2,000,000 websites all around the world. It’s designed to make the visitors experience much more rewarding. It works by showing visitors information that they might be interested in without them having to click on anything. Simply rolling over a link is enough to display a screenshot which will be much more attractive than having to click off the site. Snap is quite a large network and it reaches approximately 35 million users every month. It’s also available in over 48 different languages which mean it has real international appeal. Snap also offers something called Engage, this allows companies to promote their products, build traffic and increase revenue.

Snap was launched by Tom McGovern and Bill Gross in 2006. Snap has received $10 million in funding from Idea lab and Mayfield Fund. The company is based in California, USA. Snap is very popular and reaches around 19% of US internet audience. It manages to receive 35 million unique visits every month and is available in over 48 languages.
What are the differences to other applications?
Snap is completely free to use, all of the revenue for the site comes from advertising and other external sources. There are no paid accounts, and no option to remove the adverts.
How does the application look and feel to use?
The site is designed in an attractive way and it’s really easy to use. The snapshots can contain text, photo's, Google Maps, Flickr slideshows, RSS feeds and other sorts of content. Installing the system in your site is simply a matter of copying some code and pasting it into the right place on your site. This is possible even if you don’t know anything about the internet and creating websites. There are also a number of online tutorials and tutorial videos which will make sure you know how to use the website without any problem.
How does the registration process work?
Creating your own account on Snap doesn’t take very long, although if you haven’t already installed snapshots onto your site then you will have to go through the customization steps now. This doesn’t take very long anyway. You will need to choose your color scheme and upload a logo if required. Then when you click on the continue button you will see a much more familiar signup form, enter your email address, the URL of your site, and then enter your password twice. You will also need to tick the box to show that you accept the terms and conditions of the site. A piece of code will then be automatically generated. This can easily be copied and pasted into your website even if you know nothing about HTML. Before you can actually use snapshares you will have to check your email and follow the instructions to activate your account.

Snap is completely free to use, there are no subscription accounts. The site earns money from advertisements which are placed on the site and below the snapshots. Snap.com shares the revenue from these ads with large website publishers (more than 250,000 page views per month).

Snap Shots can be interesting for anyone that has a blog or website and wants to give their users a better experience. It’s designed in a clever way and is very easy to use; it’s ready for anyone that wants to try using any of the features. There are also people who believe these Snap Shots are similar to pop-ups and are just as annoying. Not all users of a site or blog will understand this technology.
