Seesmic is designed to help businesses and professionals manage their social media. The application includes a number of tools that work with Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Buzz, FourSquare and SalesForce Chatter. Seesmic can also be translated into a number of languages, including English, Chinese, Romanian, Japanese, German, French, Portuguese, Spanish and others. The application is entirely web based so the user can access their account from any computer with an internet connection. The user dashboard presents recent social network comments, status and posts related to the user’s brand. The user can also filter by mentions, favorites, reTweets, lists, and trends. Sharing features are included as well as a mail mode that presents updates in an email inbox format. Picture previews are also included so the user can enlarge an image posted with a comment or other social media update. The user can also publish updates, comments, links and photos to their social networks from the Seesmic dashboard. Seesmic is available for iPhones, Android, Blackberry and Windows Phone 7 devices. The dashboard includes a great deal of information, which can border on overwhelming, however it is generally neatly organized with no clutter. The left hand side includes a list of menu items that the user can page through. The center of the page shows the user their current updates (based on which item is selected). Three buttons at the top, left hand corner of the dashboard give the user access to contacts, messages or the main area. A new user can try Seesmic by clicking the black and white “Launch Seesmic Web” button along the left hand side of the homepage. A pop up box appears asking the user to log in. A small blue link can be found in the lower, right hand corner of the box, inviting the user to create an account with their Twitter profile. After clicking the light blue Twitter button, the user is given access to the Twitter log in form to give Seesmic access. There is no other log in option available at this time. Seesmic is available to all users for free. Mobile versions can also be downloaded and installed for free. The application requires a Twitter account to log in, which is also free to all users. This is definitely a good way to encourage more users to try Seesmic. Seesmic is a helpful tool for users who would like to monitor their brand on social networks. The application brings a great deal of information taken from many online resources into one convenient dashboard.
