What can you use the app for?

It is not always easy to come up with a low key way to brag about something. Score.ly helps users keep score by listing achievements through this handy application. Users as young as 13 years old can post their recent and past achievements. Score.ly makes it acceptable for users to show the world what they have done. Users can also share their accomplishments with their social network through Score.ly. Users can also show their support, admiration, and encouragement by awarding other users with “kudos.” Kudos is essentially the Score.ly version of a thumbs up. Users are given points based on how many kudos they have received. Score.ly focuses on helping users show the world what they have done while earning positive attention and recognition from the community.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Score.ly was created by founders David Leibowitz and Elizabeth Fuller. The application is also e enrolled in Microsoft’s BizSpark program and is platform ready on Azure. The application is still a work in progress and currently remains in an open alpha status. What are the differences to other apps?

There are many ways to share achievements online. Users can post status updates on popular social networking websites, send out emails, or display information on blogs and websites. While these can work, they can also seem a tad “braggy.” Score.ly gives users an appropriate platform to boast without looking like a braggart. Score.ly even lets other users share their support and opinion of another user’s achievements through the kudo’s point system.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The Score.ly website uses a classy black and gold color scheme complete with texture. The site uses a neat, clean layout. Users can watch live feed updates of other users’ achievements on the homepage or quickly login and begin adding their own. The site is simple to use and connects with popular social networking websites. The user does not need to have extensive computer experience to learn how to use Score.ly quickly.

How does the registration process work?

Visitors are given three options when creating a Score.ly account. Users can sign in through an existing Google or Facebook profile, or go the traditional route and create an account on the site. Users can click the small blue “Register” link found just above the username and password login fields. The registration form, which appears along the right hand side, requires a first and last name, username, email address and password. After clicking the “Create Account” button at the bottom of the form, the user is advised to check their email inbox for a verification message. This must be accessed to complete registration for Score.ly.

What does it cost to use the application?

Score.ly offers an interesting service, but it is not something most users would be willing to pay a fee for. There are no subscription fees or other payments required. The user only has to create an account to begin using Score.ly. This is also a great way to keep the user base growing and encourage participation. Score.ly is currently in a beta status so this may change in the future. No additional information has been given but if the site plans on charging a fee, additional features would be needed.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Anyone with a reason to brag can really get into Score.ly. The site gives users a platform to tell the world about their achievements. User participation is encouraged through the kudos point system as well. A user can receive support and encouragement just by listing their awards and achievements on Score.ly.
