Proust offers users a unique way to learn more about their family and friends. The application allows users to ask questions to learn things about the people they know. The user can select from a list of premade questions or come up with their own. Through Proust, users can get to know their family members and close friends. Users can also choose to set their account to private so the answers are not made publically available. The questions can be almost anything, from “what advice would you give to your 10 year old self?” to “what is the most spontaneous thing you have ever done?”. The homepage also presents a sample question that can be answered or changed out for a new question. The user can answer questions and send questions to others to be answered. This allows the user to exchange stories and information with family members and possibly discover things they did not know about the people they are close to.
Proust was founded in February of 2010 by Tom Cortese. The application was intended to help users share life stories and learn more about the people close to them. The company is currently based in New York City, New York. The team includes General Manager Cortese, Vice President of Technology Jason Fotinatos, Art Director Eric Hwang and Product Manager Jesse Richards.
Proust provides users with a fun, easy way to learn more about their family members. Rather than ask a direct question in person, the user can pose an interesting inquiry and let their relative answer in their own time. The application also allows users to interact privately with their family members or make the responses public.
Proust.com uses an elegant design that suits the stylish logo. The header and other site elements utilize a textured black pattern while the rest of the site is set against a plain white background. The questions are presented in a list, with a box at the top for users who prefer to create their own personalized question. The user’s profile looks like a cleaner, more appealing social networking profile, with their name and a book that contains their story.
A new user can create a Proust profile by clicking the blue and white “Sign Up” tab positioned in the upper, right hand corner of the page. The registration form presents two options. Along the left, the user can click the blue and white “Login with Facebook” button or fill out the form along the right hand side. The form asks for a first and last name, email address and password. After clicking the orange button at the bottom of the form, the user is presented with a set up pop up box to get started.
Proust welcomes all users to sign up and build a profile for free. There are no subscription fees or other charges for using the application. Anyone can access all features. There are no premium paid memberships offered at this time. All users are given the same options and can ask as many questions or post as many personal stories as they like.
Proust is a tool for anyone who is interested in sharing a personal story or getting to know their family members better. The application has created a casual, fun and elegant platform to learn more about parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents and anyone else the user is close to.
