What can you use the app for?
Postrank.com is an RSS aggregation service, which ranks the posts in your RSS feeds and assigns each post a rating. This rating is based on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the best. You can choose to view posts by a number of different filters, such as only posts that are considered Good, Great or Best. You can also apply word filters to an RSS feed. The ranking system is based on a number of different factors, including how often the post has been referenced in other posts, how many people have written new posts based on the post, how many people have left comments on the post and how many people have bookmarked the post. The result is an intelligent assistant, which shows you which posts in your RSS feeds are generating the most interest across the web, and, ostensibly, the most important. The site offers extensions for Firefox and Google Reader, which integrate the site with these applications. Users can view and manage their feeds on the Postrank site. This includes the ability to add tags to the feeds and organize them into “channels”.
What is the history and popularity of the app?
AideRSS, a privately held company based in Waterloo, Canada, launched Postrank.com in July 2008. AideRSS was founded in early 2007 by Ilya Grigorik, Francis Lau, and Kevin Thomason. Ilya Grigorik is now the CTO of the company. AideRSS developed the technology behind the Postrank service during 2007. The service has an Alexa page rank well under 100,000 and is growing rapidly. In 2011 PostRank was acquired by Google.
What are the differences to other apps?
Postrank.com is similar to services like Windows Live Personalized Experience and iGoogle. The major difference that Postrank offers is its ranking algorithm. The other services are basically aggregators that allow the user to organize their content based on their own preferences, and do not rank individual feeds or posts. Postrank.com adds an intelligent filter to the deluge of posts coming from multiple RSS feeds.
How does the web app look and feel to use?
The Postrank site is very well-done, with a clean, uncluttered look. Navigation is intuitive, and you always have the same 4 options on the top menu panel – Feed Details, My Feeds, My Channels and My Account. Feed Details allows you to view the content of the current feed. My Feeds allows you to manage and select your feeds for viewing. My Channels gives you the ability to organize your content into Channels based on tags that you assign to feeds or posts. The My Account page allows you to change your password or add an OpenID login. The site is very responsive and page loads are quick. The available Firefox and Google Reader extensions allow you to add and manage feeds without visiting the Postrank site. In practice, these extensions integrated seamlessly with their respective applications.
How does the registration process work?
You only need to give your email adress and password to create a new account. You can also use your Yahoo or Google account to sign up.
What does it cost to use the application?
Postrank.com is a free service and the site displays no advertising. The registration process asks for email address and password only. There is no email validation required. You are also offered the option of logging into the site using OpenID, or your Google or Yahoo ID. Once registered, you can download the Firefox or Google Reader extension and add feeds to the service by visiting them and clicking on the Postrank icon. You also have the option of entering new feed addresses manually on the Postrank site.
Who would you recommend the application to?
Postrank is recommended to any user who deals with more than a few RSS feeds. The service offers seamless integration with Firefox and Google Reader, or you can use the Postrank site to view all of your feeds. The ranking algorithm being used by Postrank truly does deliver the most interesting, important and relevant content. The service can save users an infinite amount of time spent digging through individual posts to see which need to be read.
  • Users can aggregate all of their RSS feeds on the site
  • Individual posts for each feed ranked based on Postrank’s unique algorithm
  • Firefox and Google Reader extensions offer seamless integration with the site

Alexa rankings can't be the sole determinants of measuring a sites importance and popularity as the http://www.alexa.com/data/details/main/fortunehotels.in rankings do not take into account all the browser types like Windows Vista etc.
