What can you use the app for?
PollDaddy is a service that provides polling and survey widgets for blogs, websites and social networking sites. Users can create simple polls and surveys, and the Polldaddy site will generate the widget code for them to post the poll or survey on their site. Users can create single answer, multiple choice or user answered polls using a convenient poll editor on the Polldaddy site. Any of 19 styles can be applied to the poll widget, or users can create their own style. Users can also choose to allow comments on their polls. Simple surveys can be created using the survey editor on the Polldaddy site. All surveys are the fill-in-the-blank type – there are no predetermined answers possible. The user can add custom start and finish messages to the survey, and choose from one of 6 ready-made styles or create a custom style.
What is the history and popularity of the app?
Polldaddy was founded in September 2006 by David Lenehan and a co-founder. The site has undergone steady growth since launch. In April 2008, Polldaddy released Polldaddy Jr., the Polldaddy API, Media Polls and Wordpress Plugins. Polldaddy was acquired by Automattic, the company behind the Wordpress blogging platform, in October 2008.
What are the differences to other apps?
Competition to Polldaddy comes from SurveyMonkey, Vizu and GlowDay. SurveyMonkey offers more sophisticated surveys than Polldaddy, but does not offer a poll widget. The SurveyMonkey free service is comparable to Polldaddy and the paid service is slightly less expensive than Polldaddy. Vizu offers polling widgets as well as more sophisticated polls through its paid Power Polls feature. GlowDay is an entirely free service that allows users to create both poll and survey widgets.
How does the web app look and feel to use?
The Polldaddy site has a very clean and uncluttered look and feel. The site is quite responsive, with page loads happening almost instantaneously. The poll and survey editors are quite responsive as well, operating almost as fast as dedicated desktop apps. Navigation on the Polldaddy site is intuitive, with a convenient top menu bar shown on all pages of the site. Tabs on the menu bar include Account, Polls, Survey, Profile and Logout. There is no advertising displayed on the Polldaddy site.
How does the registration process work?
Registration at the Polldaddy site is free and is required to create a poll or survey. The registration process asks for first and last name, email address and password. Validation of the email address is not required. A free membership allows for an unlimited number of polls per month and unlimited poll votes. There is a link to the Polldaddy site placed on the poll or survey widget, and there is no analysis of data available for polls or surveys created using a free account. Surveys for a free account are limited to 10 questions and 100 answers per month.
What does it cost to use the application?
There are two premium levels of membership to the Polldaddy site, Polldaddy Pro and Polldaddy Pro2. The Polldaddy Pro membership removes the Polldaddy link from the widgets, provides data analysis of poll and survey results, allows unlimited questions per survey, and raises the limit of survey answers per month to 1,000. The Polldaddy Pro2 membership has all of the features of the Polldaddy Pro account, plus it raises the number of survey responses per month to 10,000. The Polldaddy Pro account costs $200 per year, and the Polldaddy Pro2 account costs $899 per year.
Who would you recommend the application to?
The PollDaddy site is recommended to anyone who has a need for opinions from visitors to their blog or website. The capabilities of the site range from simple polls and surveys to complex surveys with statistical analysis of the collected data. A free account offers polling and survey ability to bloggers, and the paid memberships provide businesses with more capability and access to the data collected from their polls and surveys.
