Piczo is a social networking site that is designed specifically for teenagers. Unlike my space and the other popular social networking sites, piczo is designed just for children. This is a very easy application to use, even if you have no experience writing websites you still won’t have a problem creating your own page. It’s possible to create a site consisting of as many pages as you like. Of course the site is no where near as popular as Face book and my space, however it does receive around 12 million unique visitors a month. It’s making a name for itself and has found a very comfortable little niche. Safety is very important for children on the internet, and that’s why it appeals so much to young children and teenagers. The way that this website started was pretty special and unique, they sent 100 emails to potential users and what resulted was around 10 million visitors a day! The site is aimed at young teens and is involved heavily with Wired Safety which protects children while they are online. Piczo was founded and launched July 2007, and it is popular with teenagers. It’s particularly popular because they take security so seriously which pleases parents. Many other social networking sites such as My Space and Face book are aimed more at young adults than children. This means that there is quite a large gap in the market, and that’s where Piczo comes in. It is a social networking application that’s designed specifically for 13 to 16 year olds and is becoming increasingly popular. Because the application is aimed at teenagers it is much safer and there are special safety constraints in place to ensure that children are as safe as they possibly can be on the internet. Piczo is designed to be appealing to children, and you really can tell. The page designs are tacky with glitters. It's also not really easy to design your own Piczo page. This involves clicking and dragging various things around the page. You can then preview and save the page once you’ve done. Registering for an account at Piczo is fairly easy, and it is designed to be as quick as possible so that the teens signing up don’t get bored. When signing up you first need to choose the type of page that you want to create, there are many different options. Including the option to complete a whole website if you want. You will need to enter your date of birth, and then you can start customizing your site and choosing a web address for your site. Once you have done this you can then design your site. You will be sent an email to the address that you used when you signed up, you must click the link inside the email to activate your account. Piczo is a free social networking platform; it does have adverts to generate revenue however these aren’t distracting. A nice feature is the drug awareness advertisements; this will make it even more popular with parents as they want to make sure their children don’t get involved in anything dodgy. Piczo is perfect for any 13 to 16 year old that still wants to stay in touch with their friends but doesn’t want to use face book or my space. Because it’s designed especially for children, and because it takes security seriously many parents are much happier to allow their children to sign up for a Piczo account.
