PhotoSnack is an online application for creating slideshows with uploaded digital pictures. Free and paid options are available that include downloadable or online hosted options. PhotoSnack is a part of SnackTools Creative Web Apps. The group includes BannerSnack, PhotoSnack, and the newly launched PodSnack beta. The tools are extremely easy to use. Uploads are fast and tools are simple. The free options are limited, but serviceable. The Getting Started tutorial video presents an overview of the process of creating a slideshow. In testing, the site, with a dsl cable connection took less than three minutes to upload 8 photos. Users can add titles, descriptions, or links to each uploaded image. Each template may be previewed with the users’ photos. Most templates are only available to premium members, in other words - those with paid memberships. There are only four basic slideshow templates available for free. Once chosen, the flash-enabled slideshow appears. Users may change the colors of the album, add a personal logo, or change the appearance of the controls. The Navigation tab allows customization of control and slideshow speed. The Image tab provides border selection and other options. When finished, users may publish with a single click and are presented with options for viewing. Note that free embed code option is lower quality and has a watermark. The one thing that is annoying is that occasionally a waiting symbol appears at the center of the photo before the next is displayed during the slideshow. Users may sign in using Facebook, Google, Yahoo, or SnackTools accounts. Simply approve connecting the selected account, or create a new one on SnackTools. Once the account is linked, a user is directed to the upload page. For some reason, PhotoSnack uses SnackTools points as currency to pay for certain services. Each point costs from $0.66-1.90, depending upon the number of points being purchased. Monthly subscriptions for 100 points at $19/month or 500 points for $39/month are available. This is somewhat inconvenient for the user who wishes to simply purchase the individual slideshow. A direct link to a hosted slideshow is free, as is an email link to the show. Embed code for standard html copy and pasting with a PhotoSnack watermark is free. An embed code without watermark is offered for 8 points for the first 10.000 views/day and then a small watermark is added. The downloadable offline slideshow may be purchased for 4 points with no watermark, but no online hosting is provided. PhotoSnack provides tools for easily sharing photo slideshows online. With email links, direct links, and embeddable html code, it is easy to provide access for others to view users’ slideshows. Anyone wishing to share photos via email, social networking, blog, or website can easily utilize any of the options.
