Outright is an online bookkeeping web based application, it makes keeping your accounts up to date much easier than it normally is. It’s designed specifically with the needs of small businesses in mind and is ideal for self employed people, entrepreneurs and anyone else that has to file Schedule C. The application can be used to track your expenses and your businesses income. It also calculates your tax and gives you an indication of how well your business is performing. It is also capable of importing information about invoices from Fresh Books which makes it possible to track invoices and find out when they have been paid. Because it’s a web based application it can be accessed anywhere, this means that you don’t have to be in your office, or even in the country when you want to log on and check your accounts. The site is currently free however this might change when it becomes the final release. Outright started life as GoBootStrap in 2008 and has recently been re-branded as Outright in 2009. The company employs 3 people and is based in California, USA. It has received $2M in funding from various sources including Shasta Ventures. Outright is unique because it makes accounting easier, because it’s accessed over the internet it can be accessed on virtually any computer anywhere in the world. This means that should your computer break or you forget to take your laptop with you then you can still log on to check what’s going on. The application also estimates your tax bill which is very useful since you will be able to find out how much money you need to put aside. As soon as you have registered on the site you can start using it. You’ll be amazed at just how easy something as complicated as accounts can be made by this program. There is even a tour so that you can familiarize yourself with the interface. It’s very easy to find your way around and is easier than any other accounting package available. It’s split into two main sections, recording payments that you have received, and recording your business expenses. It also integrates with Fresh Books for easy invoice tracking functions. Registering for an account with Outright is very easy, and it’s also completely free. You simply need to enter the name of your company, your email address and then choose a password. You must also accept the terms and conditions before you’re able to click the continue button. You will be sent an email however you do not need to activate your account. At the moment it’s free to use outright for your accounts, however on the site it does state that this will only be the case during the beta testing period. After this they have suggested that they will charge for some features, whether or not they will offer a free account remains to be seen. Outright is however currently completely free. Outright is perfect for US businesses that have to file a Schedule C tax return as the categories are the same as you would have to enter on the forms in that case. The simplicity of the application makes it a real pleasure to use and as it’s currently free to use it’s perfect for self employed people. It estimates your tax which will make it much easier to make sure that you’re saving enough to pay your tax bill when the time comes.
