Nixle refers to itself as a community information provider. The aim of this site is to provide a communication platform which is reliable and very secure. This is the very first service which connects together agencies and organizations with residents to get really useful information. The information is delivered directly to mobile phones with text messaging, emails and internet access. Nixle was privately funded but has recently set up a partnership with the International Justice and Public Safety Network known as NLETS. This makes it possible for local police authorities to send and receive instant alerts. Nixle has been funded privately but is completely free for both governments and individuals to use.

Nixle was founded in 2007 and has its headquarters based in New Jersey, USA. The founder of Nixle is Craig Mitnick and Firas Emachah.

This is the only application that links together so many different organizations with a secure platform. One of the biggest differences is that nixle now has a partnership with NLETS. Nixle is also complexly free for users and governments to use.

Nixle also offers you the ability to receive alerts through the internet, email and even directly to your mobile phone in the form of a text message.

Nixle has quite an attractive appearance even though it is a little busy. It’s a community information service which means you can find out about what’s going on in certain communities up and down the country.

In order to use the site you need to register for an account. All accounts are free and very easy to sign up to. It’s just a matter of filling in quite a simple registration form. You will also need to enter your address on the next screen and you can also enter your mobile phone details. By entering this information the site will tailor the content to suit you. After you have done this you can then invite your friends. Alternatively you can skip this step. You will receive an activation email which you need to read and follow the instructions in.

Nixle is free for all users including local consumers and governments. There also aren’t any noticeable adverts so it’s not clear where the money to run the site is coming from especially as it’s been created with private funding. The site also offers weather reports which are related to your own region.

Nixle is only suitable for people in the US and Canada as it only provides information to these communities. If the site has no information collected about your region then it will let you know that they will email you when there is more information available.
