NanoCrowd makes it much easier to find films that you will actually enjoy watching. Although there are plenty of other film review sites on the internet, none work quite like this. NanoCrowd is designed to suggest films that you might like. To use it you simply need to enter the type of film that you enjoy and then click the search button. You can then click the type of film that you would like to see and you will see a list of recommendations. These recommendations are based upon what other users thought of the film, and which films they like. The idea is very simple, but very clever. Instead of film experts telling us what we should like, we can get a very customized experience by seeing which films people similar to ourselves enjoyed watching. The technology behind the site has been in development since May 2008; however nanocrowd itself was launched in public beta on 9th March 2009. The site is still a work in progress and new features are being added all the time. Unlike other film review websites, nanocrowd gets all of its opinions and information from other users. There are thousands of comments on the application, because these are from real people just like you there’s a much lower chance of getting inaccurate information. Films are personal, and the reviews also need to be personal if they are going to work. It’s very easy to find which films you might like to watch, all you need to do is enter the name of a film that you have watched and enjoyed. You can then see lists of films that other members of the site liked that enjoyed watching the same film as you. Everyone is different, and this is trying to make it much more personal and customized. All of the comments are sourced from external sources, and because they are combined it makes it much less likely that any review will be biased. It’s not currently possible to sign up to NanoCrowd because the feature is currently still under development, however in the near future they will allow users to sign up and create accounts. The user account will allow users somewhere to store movie recommendations, and will also offer integration with your netflix account. At the moment on the signup page there is only an option to sign up for the newsletter. It’s completely free to use nanocrowd, there are adverts down the side of the screen however these aren’t too bad. The site seems to be a demonstration about the technology and it looks like a number of different searches are in the works. NanoCrowd is good for any film lover who wants to see a certain type of film; it’s possible to search for films that you might like by searching for the film name. This is a great way of researching films that you might enjoy watching.
