What can you use the app for?
MyYearbook.com is a social networking site similar to MySpace and Facebook that offers some unique features. The site is targeted mainly to young people of high school and college age. Users can perform all of the usual tasks such as upload pictures and videos, maintain a blog, chat with other users and share files and information. In addition the site has features like Battles, where users challenge other users for who has the best smile or who has written the best poem. Other features include Owned! where users purchase pictures of other users using “lunch money”, the currency used on the site. myYearbook also supports one of the safest live video chat solutions on the web. Match is a feature that allows users to search for people of the same age or with the same likes and dislikes. Quizzes allow users to post a quiz of some sort for other users to answer. The MyMag page is a page where users can consolidate all of the content that they like to view on a regular basis. MyYearbook is a large site with a seemingly endless number of activities.
What is the history and popularity of the app?
MyYearbook.com was founded in 2005 by David and Catherine Cook, two high school students, with the help of their older brother Geoff. Geoff Cook had already founded two sites in 1997, ResumeEdge.com and EssayEdge.com. The site was originally intended as an electronic alternative to the annual yearbook at the high school the two students were attending. Over time the idea caught on and spread, and now the site has millions of users. The Alexa page rank of the site is well below 500. Geoff Cook is now the CEO of the company.
What are the differences to other apps?
MyYearbook, as mentioned previously, is similar to MySpace and Facebook, but offers many more features. The site’s strong point is the number of different activities available on the site. The site is one of the top destinations on the web for teens aged 13 to 17. One weak point of the site when compared to it’s competitors is that it is very cluttered and navigation can be difficult, simply due to the fact that the site has so much to offer. MySpace and Facebook offer a cleaner, more polished look.
How does the web app look and feel to use?
As noted above, the site is very “busy”, with lots of links and content on each page. The site displays advertising as well. There are two menu bars on the site, one along the top of the page and a personal one that can be opened on the left-hand side of the page. Navigation is fairly intuitive, but there are an almost overwhelming number of items to choose from. The site is very responsive, with page loads happening quickly and the file upload and download speeds are quite fast.
How does the registration process work?
Registration is required for most activities on the site. The registration process asks for first and last name, date of birth, zip code, email address and password. Once the user submits these details they are prompted to find their friends on myYearbook from Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL Mail and Gmail. Next the user is prompted to upload a photo of themselves. Then the user is taken to their personal page, the MyStuff page. The registration process is smooth and glitch-free.
What does it cost to use the application?
Membership on myYearbook is free, but “lunch money”, which is required to use a lot of the activities on the site, must be bought (users can earn some lunch money through contests, etc.). Lunch money costs $9.99 for $1,000,000 worth. The site accepts Visa, Mastercard and American Express. Users can also pay with their cell phone account (via text message) or PayPal. The credit card process asks for full card information, including security code, and full billing address details.
Who would you recommend the application to?
MyYearbook is recommended primarily to young people who need a family-friendly site to interact with their friends and make new ones. It offers all of the same features as MySpace and Facebook, and a whole lot more. The founders envision the site as a social network that users will continue to belong to as they grow older, so the site will likely evolve over time. For a young person, myYearbook is a good place to perform most of the actions that they perform online.
  • Large number of different activities
  • Similar to MySpace and Facebook but offers more activities
  • Unique content such as Owned! and Battles
  • Ability to have friends, share content and participate in activities

To be honest, I think that myyearbook is a bad site... But you have to give it some credit. Because the creators of this site are quite intelligent for making it up. I have found many many loyal friends off of this site and i had even found one of my recent ex girlfriends there. We have met in person quite a few times, but nothing bad has happened. Sure, i don't think that anybody should be able to talk to anybody they want. There should be more restrictions. Myyearbook has loaded well for me and it has been fast for me. The games are fun and i love blogging. Although, it says that live on there is a "safe and friendly" app, it is not. I have seen more sexual content on there than i have actual people. And that's the truth. They can make it more secure for people of the younger age. I don't like the fact that people can purchase your pictures. I find it a little creepy. And i don't like how you can battle somebody, so that other people can tell you you're uglier than the other person. I've had my account for about a year now. It has its ups and downs at times. But i have friends on there so that's why i have been keeping my account all this time, to keep in touch with the MANY people i talk to. Another thing i don't like is that i've had alot of problems with bullying. I'm what today's generation would call an "emo" girl. I get alot of death threats. I also get alot of people telling me to cut or kill myself. Which i don't find that appealing at all. But, besides all that, i guess myyearbook is an okay site.

This has got to be one of the worst social site that is free online, every time you go to a friends page or try to send a mess, it has to reload the page,,also if u want to check messages u have to refresh the pages just to see if another message has come in,this site sucks in every way ,there is so much junk on the site you will be surprised if your computer doesn't lock up as you surf the site..and for any reason if you have to get a hold of support,,there is no way to do so,,and if u find a way to contact them you have to dissect the info they have for it..there support is null and very poor..AT BEST

It's complex, hard to navigate and has way too much content. Go join Facebook if you're looking for a secure well managed website for social networking. IF myYearbook was that good, why aren't there corporations flocking to it to build pages like on Facebook!

this website my yearbook turns a blind eye to bullying it gives you generic answers to the report abuse button, I have had photos stolen and reposted along side my real name and location, they removed the photo but left the cyberbully who will be back again to repost and bully myself and others, I have left this site many times and now I am back only to keep an eye on this person who constantly uploads my stolen photos, its full of pornography half naked woman over the age of 40 looking for "dates" and is far from family friendly or a place where any teenager should be. This place should be rated R for the content it allows and come with a mental health warning for the abuse bullying and hatred you will endure there as a member.

i tried the site for 2 days and comtemplating quitting the site the first day, I had just joined and put a photo up and within 10 minutes I had 47 profile views i hadnt even filled out anything yet, The site is very hard to navigate around and with all the so called admirers who i didnt know the blind dates game and dirty old men who were twice my age who looked at my profile, sent me flirts and messages it was a bit overwelming to say the least especially being in a relationship when you are just looking for friends and people to talk to, be warned if you are looking for a easy time there are plenty of men & women on this site who will easily ablige, I will stick to facebook and myspace.

I am amazed that the review says it is geared for teens and that it is a family friendly site. The comments on their site for how great myyearbook.com is are from mostly 24+ year olds. General activities on the site are geared for dating or bashing. Very little building up and general community. There is a lot bordering on pornography and very suggestive activity. Very unfortunate. Facebook is more family friendly! This site is not where I want to be found.

this is one of the worst social networking sites you will come across. there is one person in particular that calls himself the joker that steal peoples pictures and makes up fake accounts but yet myyearbook allow this guy to remain. My friend had pictures of her kids stolen off her page and this joker made up a fake account and uploaded the pics he stole and wrote nasty things about the kids and their mum underneath it. If you want harassed and bullied join this website, you will defo come across this guy and his fake accounts on this site. It has one of the worst suppport team who tell you just to block and account if they are making threats towards you or your family. so go ahead join and enjoy the bullying from this guy and the not so grate support team. Oh and yes one other thing, it says that they dont allow nudity on their site.... its completely full of nudity and sexual explict material. so its one for the porn kings to enjoy.

i think myyearbook is the only social network site having the best search feature, for example, it tells who's online in a particular place live. you can custom search by selecting specific area. for me that's very cool feature.
