What can you use the app for?

MobIncentive gives users a community to reach out to in order to bring about change in the world. It could be a very large or small scale project, from something very personal like stopping a bad habit to much larger, like building a new park in a local community. Users post their ideas and assign a judge (usually themselves). Others can submit possible solutions, which the judge decides to either accept or reject. Users can also give the project “fame points” or an actual monetary pledge. Money is not paid up front, it is only paid if the project is actually begun. MobIncentive does not enforce payments of pledges, however an unpaid pledge lowers the user’s trust rating. The site uses these tools to help users collectively come up with solutions and a means to bring about change.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

MobIncentives is basted out of Seattle, Washington. The site was created to harness the power of a group to bring about change. The creators believed that when many people were involved, people would be more inclined to follow through and make good on their promises and commitments. Today, the site thrives with new pledges and users. Anyone can sign up and try to convince others to help out with their project.

What are the differences to other apps?

Before the internet, it was hard to find enough people to fund a project. Sites like MobIncentive are unique because they make it much easier to bring together many and achieve a goal. Users can give whatever they can, whether it is fame points, a potential solution, or actual money. The system encourages users to participate because the chosen solution gets fame (a little notoriety from the judge). The system is a great way to help get projects off the ground.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The MobIncentive website features a dark blue header with a clever logo design. Users can easily navigate the site, check out top fame earners from a leaderboard right on the homepage. Popular, recent, nearly expired, complete, and projects that have earned money are posted on the homepage as well (listed under their respective headings). It’s very easy for a new user to create their own project or review others to find a way to get involved.

How does the registration process work?

A new user can click the white “Create an Account” link underlined at the top right hand corner of the homepage. The user is asked to provide a username, email address, password and terms of use agreement. After submitting the information, the user is advised to check their email for an activation message which provides further instructions to complete registration. Once this is complete, the user can begin using MobIncentive features.

What does it cost to use the application?

Creating a MobIncentive account and browsing the site costs nothing. No premium account is offered and there are no subscription fees. Users can access all features for free. The only time the site costs the user anything is when they agree to pledge money to a project. Even then, MobIncentive does not police pledges and users may opt out of paying. When they do this, however, their trust rating goes down.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Internet users that want to get something done can really appreciate MobIncentive. The site allows users to tap into an entire community of people to get a project going. There are no costs involved unless the user agrees to pledge money, which makes the site ideal for anyone with little or no budget to achieve their goals. MobIncentive is especially ideal for community projects and charity related tasks.
