Meebo was launched in September 2005 by three entrepreneurs. Since then, they have received two rounds of financing from various venture capitalists including the prestigious Sequoia. They have grown very fast and are now about as popular as the much older eBuddy.

Meebo has all the features you would expect but on top of that they have one unique function. Meebo automatically saves all your message history. So when you log in after a week you can still check your old conversations. This really sets it apart from the other applications.
How does the application look and feel to use?
Meebo uses separate popup windows for chats. This makes it easy to have one very active chat and another couple of less active ones. But all chats will close if you close their website. This forces you to deal with the clutter of managing a lot of chat and website windows.
How does the registration process work?
If you just want to use a single instant messenger platform you do not need to register with Meebo, you can just use the login information of that platform. If you want to see contacts from multiple platforms in one window, you need to get a Meebo id. You need to enter your age, gender and email address. The email address is not checked.

Meebo will be supported by advertising in the future but currently the website is ad free.
