What can you use the app for?
MediaFire is a simple file sharing solution that lets users quickly share and download files online. The application presents the user with a convenient drag and drop interface. The user simply drags and drops the file onto the page to begin uploading. The user’s files are stored securely with no uploaded or download limitations. The user can access their files from any computer, mobile phone or tablet computer with an internet connection. Along with sharing files, some users upload their documents so they can access them on different devices. The application does not set other limitations either, such as simultaneous download limitations or waiting times. The application is intended to supply internet users with a safe, convenient option when storing, sharing and accessing files.
What is the history and popularity of the app?
MediaFire was founded in October of 2006 by Tom Langridge. The application was created to provide internet users with a better way to manage, share and access files on the web. The current version includes a number of appealing features with very few limitations. MediaFire has been received with praise, including a position on the Top 100 Undiscovered Websites and a Top Website of 2008 award by PC Magazine.
What are the differences to other apps?
The main difference between MediaFire and other file sharing applications is the lack of limitations placed on the user. While other applications will severely limit features based on membership level, MediaFire avoids doing this (for the most part). There are still file size limits, however the user doesn’t have to wait any specific length of time to download a file and can download simultaneously without waiting. While the general function is the same, MediaFire provides a freer, more user friendly environment to manage files online.
How does the web app look and feel to use?
MediaFire has a very sleek, modern style that makes it visually appealing to the user. The multi-tone blue color scheme gives the site depth while a smooth silver file bearing the site’s logo in silhouette shows the user where to drag and drop their files. The interface is very clean with absolutely no clutter. Overall, MediaFire provides its users with a visually appealing setting to upload, download and share files online.
How does the registration process work?
A new user can create a MediaFire account by clicking on the white “Sign Up” link in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage. The next page asks the user to click the green button that corresponds with their desired membership level. The registration form requires a first and last name, email address, optional display name and password. After submitting the form, the user is asked to provide their first and last name, address and credit card information (when purchasing a paid membership).
What does it cost to use the application?
MediaFire offers three membership options to new users. The first is a free plan which includes unlimited fast simultaneous downloads, unlimited online storage, a 200 MB maximum file size, limited long term storage, one customized folder link and file and folder sharing capabilities. The Pro plan costs $9 per month and includes up to 4 GB maximum file size, no advertisements, secure redundant backups, detailed download stats, folder download options, customizable branding options, priority level email support, enhanced security and an embeddable file dropbox. The Business plan costs $49 per month and includes unique custom domains, detailed security logs and the ability to add additional users at a rate of $3 each per month.
Who would you recommend the application to?
MediaFire is an appealing file sharing and storage option for individuals as well as professionals. The interface is clean and user friendly and the users are not saddled with unnecessary limitations that hinder the overall experience. One free and two paid membership options provides all users with access that meets their needs and budget requirements. Companies can also add access for additional users for a low per month rate.
  • Users can choose between one free and two paid membership options
  • All users can download without any required wait times
  • Simultaneous downloads are not limited on any account
  • Users can upload and download as often as they like
  • Files are accessible from any computer or mobile device with an internet connection

The Mediafire hosting site is UNRELIABLE. When it is up and running, it works very well. But since I've purchased a one year 'membership', the site has been down about 40% of the time. And trust me, my users are nor happy about that! When my year expires, I'm going to find a more reliable service. Until then, I am setting up several 'mirror' sites on other hosting services. Mediafire is NOT RECOMMENDED. Big Daddy Jim

This used to be a good service but now be sure you stay away! I LOST ALL OF MY PICTURES due to inactivity. you must log on at least every 30 days or they will delete everything without any warning. See the previous persons comments as they are more detailed to the problem.

I have been able to use this service for more than a year now and I used to be pretty happy with it. MediaFire comes along in a pretty packaging and will offer you with a free account and unlimited storage space for files to share with your friends and family. There have been minor issues with the Flash Interface on slower machines (3yr old PC laptop and Mac) when file uploads were cancelled (at 95% or similar) and download previews were not supported. The down side of MediaFire, however, is that they will delete your files from your account without informing you if you have not logged in for 30 days or uploaded and downloaded any files in the same time. This comes very unhandy if you go on a longer holiday or just not use the service for a while and have to re-upload everything again. This is the case for the Free accounts and it is deeply upsetting if you experience it. You will not be able to retrieve these files from the MediaFire servers, they will be deleted. Contacting customer service is pointless, they will just tell you about rules you have never read on their website (unless you specifically dig for "Where are all my files gone" in the "Knowledgebase"), and which they keep from you until you specifically ask to know about them. I suppose you should not expect anything, if you don't pay anything but it would at least be helpful if MediaFire would notify you if your files are expiring, but they will fail to do so and you will loose your files and - more importantly - have to upload things you have shared with your pals, all over again. I would also like to write about the manner the customer service dealt with my complaint but I fear my words could be upsetting for the younger generation reading this review. To put it nicely: They didn't deal with it very well. And I am now using Dropbox, which is much neater and simpler.
