What can you use the app for?

Mango Languages is an online application designed to help you learn a new language. Learning languages has always been very difficult for adults but mango languages hopes to change that. There are around a dozen different languages to choose from. It not only teaches you the basics of the language but it also helps to teach you the conversational skills which will be really useful when you have to communicate with a foreigner. The site is designed to be as easy as possible to use and you will notice a quick improvement in your language ability. The language is taught using real life situations and believable conversations which means that you will walk away from the lesson with some extra knowledge about it. You will find it much easier to pick up and learn the language by listening to and repeating what has just been said. This makes it possible to learn the words and phrases and also how to apply them in conversations. You will learn much more than just the basics; you also learn how to communicate in that language.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Mango Languages is based in Michigan and is a subsidiary company of Creative Empire LLC. It’s becoming more popular than ever especially with travelers and immigrants looking for work in a foreign country.

What are the differences to other apps?

Mango Languages is available for free at many US and Canadian libraries. If it’s not then you can still access the course information on the internet but you will have to pay. Unlike some other online language learning services it's not possible to get lessons from a teacher.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The application is designed in a nice way, in order to learn a language the whole thing has to be fun and that’s exactly what they are trying to do here. Learning languages is hard work but this one makes light work of it. By showing you real conversations and situations you will be able to learn valuable information. Rather than just learning vocabulary you will also be able to find out how this should be used in conversations. To use the site you will need to have flash installed and use a supported browser such as Internet Explorer or FireFox. If you don’t have these then the site will walk you through how you can get them.

How does the registration process work?

Registering for an account with Mango Languages is very easy; you need to fill out a standard form with information including your email address and password. As soon as you have registered you will be logged into your account showing information about your account. It will show that you haven’t register with any courses; you can then buy course packages and start learning that new language.

What does it cost to use the application?

You have to pay to use this site although one free lesson is available so that you can check whether it’s the right site for you. Courses are all the same price and cost $160 for a three month subscription, discounts are available for longer subscriptions. A 6 month subscription costs $220, and a one year subscription costs $345.

Who would you recommend the application to?

Mango Languages is a great application for anyone that is serious about learning a new language. Of course it will still be hard work, but mango does make it much easier. Being able to learn not only vocabulary but also see how to use it in conversations will be very valuable. This makes it possible to practice yourself before trying on some locals. It’s ideal for immigrants, business travelers, or even holidaymakers.

I would really like to learn polish but why doesn't Mango have the option for it. I think it would be really popular and I would love it if Mango created an English to Polish option.

Just started using Mango for Italian and it is phenomenal. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. We just returned from Italy and I didn't know about Mango until after I returned. Big loss there but now my kids and I spend 15 minutes a day and it a lot of fun. The kids love the interactive part. I'm building a website for a business that I have and I know how difficult it is to build a functional as well as attractive site. Mango gets 5 stars from me.

I've been using Mango Languages through my library. In the past I have used various language products, including Pimsleur. I can honestly say that Mango is by far a superior learning tool. Being able to see as well as hear the language being spoken has greatly improved my retention and recall of words and phrases. I also enjoy being able to see the literal translation on screen. I would highly recommend Mango Languages to anyone serious about learning a foreign language.

I would say at this point I give it a 3.5 out of 5... I have been making my way through the Spanish one, and a bit of German, and it seems that a lot of thought went into how the conversations are set up in order to have repetition without feeling as much like it. There is also a big effort to make sure and learn several ways of saying, for example, 'hello'. I really like the color coding and the explanation of both the literal translation and the meaning translation. I dislike the narrator - it is very distracting to hear a lot of English words when I'm trying to focus on Spanish. To give it 5 stars: it needs an option to see the narrator's words rather than hear them, so that I can get the benefit of some explanations. Also would be nice if somewhere there were a list of the lessons with their titles, so, for example, if I want to review "the one about dentists" I can find it quickly. I would like to have supplemental flash cards with additional vocabulary related to each lesson. Have an option as I am following the cards so I can choose for each phrase whether to go word by word or simply repeat back. More of an explanation of the different choices within the application would be nice as well.

I'm working my way through Brazilian Portuguese with Mango Languages. It's good but has some bugs. There are also improvements that could be made to make it easier for learners. In the past, I've used Pimsleur CDs to learn German. I prefer Pimsleur but Mango is free through my local library. I'd give Mango a higher grade if they made some improvements. As it is, I keep a Portuguese dictionary handy to check on Mango translations that appear to be off. So to someone wanting to learn a language that is available through Mango, I'd say that if you have to pay for it, you should check out Pimsleur. You can get a good price on Pimseur CDs through one of the companies that sells through Amazon. I should say that Pimsleur could also be improved to make learning a little easier.
