Lockerz is intended for users between the ages of 13 and 30. The site is intended primarily for entertainment and shopping, and finds a way to bring these to pastimes together. Users earn Lockerz Pointz (also called PTZ) for being active on the site. Each time the user views a video, answers daily questions, listens to music, makes a purchase or performs other tasks on the site, they earn PTZ. Their accumulated points can be spent as they see fit to receive discounts on merchandise. The more PTZ the user earns, the better their discount options become. Today, Lockerz claims to include a community of more than 17 million users.
Lockerz was founded in 2009 by Kathy Savitt. Savitt was previously a technology and retail executive. The site is financially backed by Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Buyers as well as the Liberty Media Corporation. In October of 2010, Lockers revealed its new social commerce platform called FWB. The platform combined social networking and ecommerce, allowing user to earn PTZ and spend them on discounts. They have acquired Plixi, a photo sharing app, to help with their photo sharing functionality. In April 2011, Lockerz raised $30 million from KPCB, Liberty Media and Greg Maffei, Liberty's CEO.
