What can you use the app for?

List.ly allows users to build collaborative lists. The lists can be shared and users can contribute to them or see what others have added. Lists can also be embedded to the user’s website or blog to encourage additional interaction from visitors. The List.ly homepage features trending lists so users can see what is getting a lot of attention. A search bar is also provided so user can find lists by keyword. When creating a list, the user can include a title, description, tags and credit. List settings allow users to decide if they want to allow commenting on their list, permit guest participation or moderate items on the list. List.ly provides users with a way to socially create and update online lists.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

List.ly is a product of Boomy Labs. Boomy Labs is focused on creating consumer related tools that help structure crowdsourced web content. List.ly is currently the only item listed in the company’s portfolio. List.ly was created in 2010. List.ly is currently in beta.

What are the differences to other apps?

List.ly gives users a number of ways to collaborate on lists. The user can create a list, providing additional information to make it easier to search (such as tags and a description). The user can also choose to permit others to edit the list. User commenting provides yet another social element to List.ly. The application has found a way to combine a basic list with a fun, interactive and social environment. List.ly lists can cover anything from tech subjects to fiction books, games and organic gardens.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The List.ly website welcomes users with an organized layout and clean design. The site goes with a professional grey, black and blue color scheme that is highlighted by hints of bold orange. Together, these hues manage to give the site a unique personality without escaping into ‘busy’ territory. The homepage features a blue header with a blue tone image of a List.ly list. Below the header, users can see current trending lists as well as instructions on getting started and feedback from users. The lists also appear with a header as well as right side menus that share top contributors, related lists and recent activity. Each user who adds to the list is included in the item’s small profile along with the number of thumbs up or thumbs down and a total count of “I use this” and “I can help” responses.

How does the registration process work?

A new user can begin accessing List.ly by clicking one of the buttons in the upper, right hand corner of the homepage. The blue button on the left reads “Login with Facebook” for Facebook users while the right side button reads “Sign In with Twitter” for Twitter users. List.ly does not offer a traditional registration form at this time. All users must log in through their social network profiles to access List.ly.

What does it cost to use the application?

List.ly provides a fun, entertaining and informative service, however it is a service that is completely user-driven. Without the List.ly community, there would be no lists to enjoy on the site. That being said, List.ly invites all users to try it out for free. There are no subscription fees or other charges for doing so.

Who would you recommend the application to?

List.ly can work for almost anyone. Internet users can create a list based on a personal interest or topic they feel is important. The application is primarily intended for Facebook and Twitter users (since these are the only log in options).

  • Connect and log in through a Twitter or Facebook account
  • Create a new list to share with the community
  • Add tags, a title and description to your list
  • Allow other users to edit lists
  • Enable commenting for each list the user makes
