Line Rider

What can you use the application for?
Line Rider is an online game where you draw a track and then ride it with a sled. The character on the sled, Bosh, will mainly use gravity to ride down the track you have drawn. When the ride is too rough he will fall off the track and he is also able to make jumps. There are three types of track, blue tracks are normal, red tracks accelerate the sled and green lines are for scenery. The goal of the game is to design creative tracks and share them with others.
What is the history and popularity of the application?
Line Rider was developed in by September 2006 by Boštjan Cadež, a university student in Slovenia. The game became a huge hit and was widely featured around the web. In 2007, a mobile version of the game launched and a new color version became available online.
What are the differences to other applications?
Line Rider builds on a long tradition of games where you design the ride, be it a stunt track or roller coaster. But never before was the designing so simple as drawing one black line on a white background. There was no high score to brag about but instead players all over the world shared their creations and ride videos.
How does the application look and feel to use?
The original Line Rider had a black and white interface. The modern version has a color interface with more features but the simpleness of the original idea has been preserved. In one minute, you can design and ride your first two tracks; it is that easy to do. Make sure you start your track with a downward sloping line to the right to get the sled up to speed.
How does the registration process work?
No registration is neccesary to play the game. If you save a track it is stored on your computer. If you want to make a copy of it a PDF guide is available.
What does it cost to use the application?
The application is supported by advertisements on the website. The game itself is advertising free.
Who would you recommend the application to?
If you have not done so already, go give Line Rider a try. It is one of the most elegant games ever made.
