Lean Designs is a simple website design tool. The application is designed to make it easier for users to create a functional website. Users can drag and drop elements directly onto the page, right where they would like them to be displayed. The user can access a number of color options which offer complete customization of font, backgrounds, borders and other visual elements. A grid overlay function makes it easier for users to align elements perfectly. The application allows users to begin with a blank canvas or by choosing one of the pre-made templates provided. Users can obtain feedback from others by setting their website to shared (or restrict viewing by keeping it private). Once the user is finished designing their site, Lean Designs will automatically generate the HTML and CSS files which can be rendered on any internet browser. Along with a simple design interface, Lean Designs also boasts a registration process that takes less than 60 seconds.
The concept behind Lean Designs was born out of comments made by Reddit cofounder, Alexis Ohanian. In the discussion, Ohanian stated that there is a need for a simple, effective user interface wizard that would allow the user to instantly understand the product, design and other vital elements. Matt Mazur, the creator of Lean Designs, wanted to meet those needs with his application.
The user friendly nature of Lean Designs is what makes it so appealing to many users. The user is given complete customization control to build a site to their specifications. The drag and drop system is about as easy as web design can get. Users can also position items using the grid toggle feature and start with either a pre-made template or blank canvas.
Lean Designs is simple to look at, but can handle a great deal of customization. The user can find various tools along the left hand side of the blank canvas page. These include headers, video tools, lists, image tools and more. The user simply drags and drops items onto the canvas to start designing. The canvas appears just as the user’s finished site will once it is published. Export features are found in the upper, right hand corner of the canvas area.
A new user can create a Lean Designs account by clicking on the green and white “Pricing and Sign Up” button along the right hand side of the homepage. A similar link can also be found in the black header at the top of the page. The user is taken to the short registration form, which requires a username, email address and password. A box at the bottom of the form is automatically checked to subscribe the user to the Lean Designs quarterly newsletter. The user can uncheck the box to opt out of email updates.
Lean Designs offers membership plans that are just as easy to understand as its user interface. A free trial option is available that allows the user to build one website at no cost. A Pro account is also available for around $100 per year. The Pro account gives the user access to all features and the ability to create unlimited websites.
Anyone who would like to build websites but possesses little to no design knowledge can appreciate LeanDesigns.com. The application is extremely easy to master and gives the user a number of customization options.
