Ratingstars5 Rated 5 out of 5 stars by AppAppeal Editor
What can you use the application for?
Last.fm is a 'learning' radio application. Users can install a program to detects which tracks a user listens to, and which tracks are skipped. When the user selects an artist or song on last.fm the website suggests which other artists the user might like in the left pane.
What is the history and popularity of the application?
Last.fm is based on the Audioscrobbler technology. This technology keeps track of which songs people listen to and it uses statistical algorithms to match what kinds of music are similar. Currently Last.fm has more than 50 million different tracks they can identify this way.
What are the differences to other applications?
The difference to other online radio stations is that it is more accurate in recommending new music.
How does the application look and feel to use?
The website looks clean and intuitive. The only drawback is that online radio functionality can't be minimized easily. For this, the last.fm player has to be installed.
How does the registration process work?
Registration is quick and does not require an email address. Installing the Last.fm player is optional. The online radio starts with the first artist listed by the user.
What does it cost to use the application?
Last.fm only displays unobtrusive ads for bands and music.
Who would you recommend the application to?
It is a great site to discover new music, just type the name of your favorite artist in the main screen.
