What can you use the app for?

Many people love the way social networking allows them to stay on top of recent events in the lives of those that they know. While this is a great thing, it can get overwhelming. Users can begin to lose track of links, content and messages as they get scrolled down and lost in the mix. KeepStream presents users with a way to permanently store items like these. On KeepStream, the user can collect and organize their Tweets, status updates, links, and more on a personalized web page. The use can “remix” the content the way they want it and keep it on their KeepStream page for quick reference. KeepStream pages can be shared with others as well.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

KeepStream was founded by Tim Gasper, Jim England, and Huston Hoburg as an Austin, Texas start up company. It was intended to provide real time management and social bookmarking tools to its users. The site is still in beta, so additions may be made as KeepStream develops. For now, users can compile social networking content on KeepStream to store permanently and share with others. In September 2011, the app was acquired by Infochimps, a site dedicated to helping people find the data they need.

What are the differences to other apps?

Many social networking websites give users ways to keep up with many things at once. While this is great, it can get very fast paced and eventually the user will begin to miss or lose things. KeepStream gives users a way to save specific items they deem important or memorable enough to hold on to.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

KeepStream uses a well organized layout and blue color scheme to its advantage. New users are pleasantly surprised by the fact that the site is so neat and clean. Many social networking sites throw too much at the user, from status updates, photos and application invitations to advertisements and more. KeepStream helps users store their important social networking tid bits in a way that is very organized. It is like a breath of fresh air that allows users to create their own site founded on their social networking profile, with a personal touch.

How does the registration process work?

KeepStream users are given one option for registering. They must log in through Twitter. A light blue “Sign in with Twitter” button can be found at the top, right hand corner of the homepage. Although it seems only natural that user would be required to log in using a social networking account, more options would be helpful. A Facebook option would be very nice. Users who do not wish to link accounts will be stuck, especially since the main goal of KeepStream is to allow users to compile social networking content.

What does it cost to use the application?

Anyone can join KeepStream for free. There are no subscription fees or other charges for logging in. Users sign in with an existing Twitter account, which is also free. KeepStream integrates with many other free sites, including Twitter, Facebook, WordPress, Blogger, Google and TypePad. The price is a plus, although it should be expected to some degree because social networking sites in generally are usually free. At least, the type that KeepStream is designed to work with are.

Who would you recommend the application to?

KeepStream is a helpful tool for anyone who uses many social networking profiles and feels overwhelmed at times. It is also ideal for users who wish to create a list of favorite items and showcase them to others. KeepStream allows users to share their webpages so they can pass them along to others easily.
