What can you use the app for?
JibJab is an online site for sending video eGreetings. The site allows users to personalize and send a wide variety of humorous online greeting cards. The site also produces videos which parody politics and other subjects, and some of their videos have become quite famous. Many of the online greetings can be customized with the user’s choice of the picture used for the head of the character in the video. Users can also enter a personal message when composing an online greeting to send to someone. The site features cards for all special occasions such as Valentine’s Day and Christmas, and also a section called Everyday Fun that features categories such as Friendship and Sports. You can also view the company’s parody videos (mostly political in nature) on the site. Users have a convenient My eCards page where they can track all of the cards they have sent, store pictures (heads) to be used in videos and access their account and profile settings.
What is the history and popularity of the app?
JibJab was launched in 1999 in a garage in Brooklyn, NY by brothers Evan and Gregg Spiridellis. The company moved to Los Angeles in 20004. In late 2007, the company launched the Sendables site as a direct competitor to eCards. The site has millions of monthly visitors, with a large and devoted userbase. Traffic on the site tends to peak around special occasions or when they launch a new parody video. The site has an Alexa page rank well below 5,000.
What are the differences to other apps?
JibJab’s main competitors include e-Cards.com and Hallmark.com. Both of these sites offer animated egreetings that can be personalized and sent, but do not have the video capability and level of quality humor to be found at JibJab. Egreetings are only a portion of Hallmark’s overall site, while e-Cards is dedicated to personalizing and sending egreetings. Also, neither site offers the humorous parody videos offered by JibJab.
How does the web app look and feel to use?
Even though advertising is displayed on the site, JibJab has a clean and uncluttered look and feel. Navigation is intuitive, with a top menu bar that is shown on all pages on the site. The top menu bar has only 4 items – Home, Send eCards (cards for special occasions), Everyday Fun (cards for general interests), and Originals (features the company’s original parody videos). There are also small links to Help, My eCards, and My Account. The site is very responsive, with pages and videos loading quickly. Most pages load almost immediately and most of the videos load in a few seconds.
How does the registration process work?
Registration is required to send eCards on the site. The registration process asks for first name, email address, password, date of birth, gender, country and postal code. Verification of the email address is required to activate the user’s account. The site accepts credit cards (Mastercard, Visa, Discover, American Express) or PayPal for paid memberships. The credit card procedure asks for full billing information and the security code on the back of the card.
What does it cost to use the application?
JibJab users with a free account have limited ability to send eCards. They cannot send any of the special occasion cards, but can send a number of the items located in the Everyday Fun category and can email links to the site’s humorous videos. For full access to the site with unlimited eCards in all categories, there are two membership options available. The first option is for a 1-year membership for $15.99/year. The second option is for a 6-month membership at $9.99. The only difference in the two plans is the length of the membership.
Who would you recommend the application to?
JibJab is recommended to anyone who has a need to send humorous online greeting cards at a reasonable price. The site is cheaper than Hallmark or e-Cards as long as you send 2 or 3 eCards in 6 month’s time. The free membership is useable, except for special occasions. The free membership is recommended to anyone with an interest in watching humorous parodies and other videos. Most people will find that none of the content is objectionable.
  • Send eCards with personalized videos for special occasions and special interest such as Sports or Politics
  • Users can manage their eCards and pictures on the site
  • View humorous video parodies of political figures and other famous people and organizations
  • Paid membership is required to send eCards for special occasions such as Valentine’s Day or Birthdays
  • The site is very well done, intuitive and easy to use

Really pleased with my JibJab experience. Tried it for free first and then got 10% off here http://www.promotioncodez.com/free-jibjab-sendables-trial/ It's really good fun to create the card and great fun for the receiver of the card. The star in your own videos are the best.

I have paid my $12 and have been trying to send cards... You keep telling me to reset my passpot which I have done 8 times and still nothing. It is so frustrating.. I was able to send the first free ones so can't understand why I can't send any more. Are you taking the money and not allowing us to use it. Doreen Hansen

I don't mind paying $1 /month for a membership...but once I gave them my credit card the site wouldn't let me do ANYTHING. It just keeps loading and reloading. it's insane. if you're not using the free ones then dont' bother because the moment you buy a membership you can't use it anyway!!!

Absolutely appalled at how the site seems to only be working when it want to take my money. If you don't get your act together I will have mastercard charge it back. Krista Myke

What software is needed on our computer to hear the sound with the jib-jab cards. My daughter sends them to me and I was able to get the sound about a year ago, but now when the card comes I can't hear the sound? kddish@frontier.com

Office Max started the Elf Yourself a few years ago with another company. It was great! You could load your own voices into the animations via telephone and it was hilarious. Then, somehow they got involved with Jibjab and basically ruined the concept. No voices and Jibjab wants you to pay. Not Good!!

When the site says, "FREE", you would expect it to be just that. However, the cheapest plan is $1.00 per month for ever amen. This is false advertising. This site could have been fun and just think of all the email addresses you could have collected and sold. Not nice!
