Today, many people use multiple instant messaging programs. With so many to choose from, most individuals have contacts that use something other than what the rest of their contact list is using. Opening many instant messaging programs can be very cumbersome. IMO.IM is an application intended to help users access all of their instant messaging accounts without opening up numerous programs at once. IMO.IM is completely web based and allows the user to engage in voice, text or video chat. IMO.IM currently supports ICQ, Google Talk, Jabber, AIM, MySpace, MSN, Yahoo Messenger, Facebook, VKontakte, MySpace, Hyves and Skype. An iPhone and Android version is also available, which might make IMO.IM much more appealing to users who need an on the go solution.

IMO.IM was founded by Georges Harik, Ralph Harik and Praveen Krishnamurthy in April of 2007. Based out of Palo Alto, California, the current team also includes Technical Lead Marc Sherry, Technical Recruiter Marissa Huang, Marketing Specialist Brandi KolmerEngineers Christopher Pinchak, Erdal Tuleu, Robert Burke, Daniel Dumitran, Nikola Borisov, Xuan Luo, Tom Flanagan, Nikolay Poniatoskyi, Georgios Papoutsis, Ahmed Aly and John Rizzo. IMO.IM was created to give users an easy, convenient alternative when utilizing numerous instant messaging applications. IMO.IM is currently in an alpha status.

IMO.IM offers a service that is not terribly unique, but extremely helpful. What makes this option more appealing is the web based system. Users can easily chat from almost anywhere as long as they have access to an internet connection. IMO.IM provides users with a very valuable service, even if it is not completely original.

As soon as a newcomer visits the IMO.IM website, they are greeted by a clean, clutter free homepage that presents all the tools necessary to get started. A collection of instant messenger options appear near the center of the homepage, easily selectable using radio buttons. The user only needs to provide their username and password and can begin accessing their desired chat option. Despite the website’s minimalist approach, it still looks professional. The design keeps the focus on functionality, which is a nice touch in the eyes of some users.

Users will need an account to access any of the available chat options listed on IMO.IM. Although this information must be provided to log in, IMO.IM does not require a separate account. Anyone who visits the website can access the service simply by selecting their preferred chat application and signing in. The free sign up also prevents IMO.IM from over complicating what it does. The application is still in alpha, so this may change in the future. For now, IMO.IM is convenient to use without a separate registration requirement.

Most instant messengers and chat programs are available for free, or have free services they offer. IMO.IM keeps in line with the free nature of these applications by giving any user access free of charge. There is no premium paid membership. In fact there is no registration period. Of course this could change in the future as IMO.IM is developed and leaves its alpha status, but for now anyone can use IMO.IM for free.

IMO.IM is a great resource for anyone who uses the chat programs it supports. The web based system is very easy to understand and the addition of mobile access makes IMO.IM even more convenient. Users can access many of the most popular chat programs through IMO.IM.
