Hi5 is a social networking site, where users can communicate with each other and share their interests. Hi5 is one of the older social networking sites on the internet, having launched in 2003. It was initally aimed at a global market, but has since found popularity in certain regions. It is a standard social networking site, where you can setup a your own profile page, show off your photos, hobbies and general interests. You can browse for known friends or attempt to find lost friends, add them to your contact list and send messages to them. There is limited implementation of Web 2.0 features, with a few widgets available, such as a music player for your profile. While you are able to customize other features in your profile page, such as text and background color, you can't move certain headers and information boxes to where you want them, unlike other social networking sites that do have Web 2.0 features fully implemented. In terms of functionality, features and content, Hi5 is someway behind Facebook, but is on a par with other social network sites, such as MySpace or Bebo. Hi5's main selling point, like many of the smaller social network sites, is its popularity in certain geographical regions. It is particularly popular in Latin America, Portugal, Romania and Thailand, amongst others. Hi5 has a very plain and slightly dated look and feel. Fortunately this also means that it loads quickly and you won't be distracted by overly elaborate graphics. You may, however, be distracted by the large and, sometimes, noisy advertisements. Most features are easy to find and the navigation is easy and logical, if nothing special. The registration process will ask you for your name, date of birth and e-mail. You will also be asked to upload a photo, but this is optional. If you have a webmail account, then you will be given the option to import your webmail contacts immediately. Hi5 is a free service supported by advertising revenue. Hi5 isn't the most advanced or highly featured social networking site out there, but it gets the job done. If you are looking to find people who are located in certain areas where the site is popular, such as Latin America and Southeas Asia, then this is the site for you.
