hakia

What can you use the application for?
“hakia” is an innovative search engine that uses semantics to present the relevant search results to the users. It works like any other search engine where a user has to type in the keywords to initiate a search query. However, hakia provides the results based on laws of ontological semantics, mathematics, computational linguistics, and fuzzy logic. As a result, the user gets the most relevant answers to the query asked for. A user can give a combination of search words that are pertinent to their query and expect results based on the relevance rather than popularity of the webpage. If the search results are very common, instead of scattering the information along many pages, hakia presents the user with a gallery on the subject. The galleries are placed on the first page of the search that tab the different aspects of the search query; for example if a user searches for Clint Eastwood, they will find his biography, images, photograph sites, interviews, blogs, quotes, contact information, filmography etc presented under different tabs on the first page. From the second page onwards the search results are simply presented in the order of their relevance. Most search queries are accompanied by a blurb on top of the page that explains the content of the page. In short hakia tries to provide the users with information that is really needed; while trying to make it easy for the user to search through the results. However there are times when the keyword typed in by the user restricts the coverage of the search engine, so the key words have to be given very carefully.
What is the history and popularity of the application?
Hakia is the brainchild of Riza Berkan, who is a nuclear scientist and Pentti Kouri, a venture capitalist and an economist. Hakia’s scientific advisor, Prof Victor Raskin is believed to be the father of ontological semantics. QDEXing technology is an invention of hakia Company. The various members of the board include Ryszard Krauze, Former Senator Bill Bradley, John Grzymala Anuj Mathur, and Murat Vargi. The search engine has in its short existence gained many admirers and hopes to increase its popularity in near future.
What are the differences to other applications?
The most apparent difference between hakia and other search engine is the Semantic search engine. Users have to be precise in their choice of key words as the results vary significantly from other search engines that set the search according to the importance of the keyword in the search results. Those who want to check out the difference can try out the comparison options at hakia itself. hakia provides its users with “Meet Others” option. The Meet Others feature allows the users to go to chat rooms where they can discuss the topic they are searching for. Hakia is generally concerned with information that is critical in nature such as that of medicine and law. However, Hakia needs to look a little bit more interesting, even though the search results are appealing, what it really needs is a bit of life on the home page. Interactive features are needed as rival search engines are mainly popular because of the fact that they give more to the users than just search results. It should try to combine its engine’s strong point, its semantics, with the popularity quotient of the sites it hosts, to save a user from typing several different types of keywords to get to the search result they desire.
How does the application look and feel to use?
The site has a calming effect in design. The use of white background with minimal but clear cut graphics makes the site look clinical at times. Over all the homepage manages to convey the cerebral inclinations of the website. The main page consists of a search bar with hakia’s features and services displayed below. During the search, the galleries look highly appealing as the images and articles are shown in clean tabs that also make it easy for users to navigate. The search results displayed are of the same kind that is displayed in other sites. The design on the whole is simple.

There are no user accounts in hakia. Those who are interested in using Hakia’s services and features on their sites can register with the h-CLUB. Here they can use the search box from hakia at their sites and subscribe to the emerging technologies formulated by hakia company. All that is needed to register for the h-CLUB is an email ID. What does it cost to use the application?
The search feature of hakia is free for all users. Those who want to use hakia’s features and services can utilize the free but limited XML feed services provided by hakia or sign up for paid services. Advertisements via third party partners is what provides the financial fuel to the engine.
